I am trying to salvage the data by copying it and get the same error: "Error while copying "VTS_01_0.VOB". Error splicing file: Input/output error" I think these dmesg error are connected to it: Code: [173159.276747] Buffer I/O error on device sr1, l

I'm trying to copy over all http://askubuntu.com/questions/395806/error-splicing-file-input-output-error of my stuff to prepare for reformatting and installing a new OS. A handful of my mp3s did not transfer when I was doing my music folder. I checked them after the fact and the ORIGINAL files became corrupted somehow. I am certain of at least a few that were not corrupted in anyway before doing this. Every now and then during my transfer I got There was an error copying the file into /media/***/Seagate Expansion Drive. Error splicing file: Input/output error Each of these files that I check after are corrupted at some point in the duration and will not play. Why did this happen and what can I do to fix it? filesystem share|improve this question edited Jan 16 '14 at 18:25 Braiam 39k1693154 asked Dec 26 '13 at 5:54 alreadytaken4536 16113 1 Possible duplicate of ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1500384 –ubfan1 Dec 26 '13 at 6:22 1 This error indicates a problem with the storage media. still going nowhere. Maybe there is something wrong with the drive. Let's try copying the files from the DVD to the hard drive. All https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/totem/+question/172778 the small files copy fine. None of the large files copy at all. Every time I try to copy one of the large files I get this cryptic error message. http://www.linuxhospital.com/read/error-while-copying-file-error-splicing-file-inputoutput-error/3.html Why is it trying to "splice" a file? If it can't read the file, say so. If it can't write the file, say so. Saying "Error splicing file: Input/output error" error splicing doesn't tell me anything useful. It just makes me think the computer has lost it's mind. Found a whole bunch of posts on Ubuntu forums about the same thing, and no answers.
