All I have installed is Win 7 x64, the regular Windows Updates and some other recommended updates (drivers for my VGA, NIC, HID, TV tuner...I think that's it). All were done via the Windows Update program.I don't think it was any of the many settings that I made via the MMC/Local Computer Policy. Most of the changes were for Internet Explorer. Made some minor settings for Windows Explorer, Windows Installer, Windows Messenger, etc...Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Today i've just realized that i couldn't open my event viewer log. On startup it shows a window with a red X on it. "Event Log service is unavailable. Verify that the service is running".. I've been peeking in some of other threads in other forums for solutions but they were just the same and it didn't solve the problem. Some of them threads told that its better if you just reinstall whole win7 instead. But i want to run all this through and learn how to solve it in the future if it appears yet again. Cou
20 Oct, 2014 at 12:51 PM while trying http://helpdesk.maytechgroup.com/support/solutions/articles/135860-windows-event-log-service-fail-to-start to troubleshoot printing issues on a machine, the event logs weren't available. Trying to start them gave a "service error 4201 the instance http://www.dell.com/support/article/us/en/04/SLN126914 name passed was not recognized as valid by a WMI data provider". I found the following articles helpful in resolving the problem event log - basically granting the SYSTEM account full control to the %systemroot%\system32\LogFiles\WMI\RtBackup folder. A couple of months ago, one of the techs tried changing the permissions on the C: drive to fix a problem - I believe that caused this problem. http://www.winhelponline.com/blog/fix-event-log-error-4201-instance-name-not-recognized/ http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsdesktop/en-US/c75ae899-d05b-411d-a7f2-00fdd33b8589/event-log-error-4201-errorwmiinstancenotfound http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/95987ca3-a1b2-4da6-95b7-d825d06cdac7/error-code-4201-the-instance-name-passed-was-not-recognized-as-valid-by-a-wmi-data-provider Did you event log service find it helpful?
