Enable Print Logging Server 2012
viewer Windows Home Server > Windows Home Server Software Question 0 Sign in printer logs windows server 2008 r2 to vote While looking at the System log in Event Viewer I've see that several times a day I get windows 2003 print server logs errors about missing printer drivers, one for my physical printer, one for the FAX driver on my desktop PC and one for the PDF driver on my desktop. The thing is I've http://smallbusiness.chron.com/check-printer-logs-54952.html never attempted to install any printers on WHS. They are not listed under WHS Printers and FAXes. I double checked and verified that none of the printers are shared on my desktop (XP SP3). Why is WHS complaining? By default when you use Remote Desktop, the client software tries to share your local printers with the remote machine. However, however, because there is normally no printer/Fax drivers etc. on the remote machine for that printer. It is possible to turn this off as follows: Start up your remote desktop client. Click on the Options>> button. Select the Local Resources tab. There's a section for Local Devices and Resources. Uncheck Printers. Go back to the General tab and save as Default.rdp. That should remove the error messages from the logs; or alternatively you could install the appropriate drivers on the server, but I wouldn't go down that route. Colin

The warning is completely harmless, present only to make you aware of the fact that you've att► PaperCut MF ◄ Overview How To Buy Latest Features Release History Find my MFD Free Software Tour Solutions ► Solutions ◄ Education Commercial Professional Services Support More ► More ◄ Contact Blog About Careers Reseller https://www.papercut.com/kb/Main/LogPrintJobsInEventViewer Login × ≡ Free Trial How to log print jobs in the Windows Event Viewer KB Home | How to log print jobs in the Windows Event Viewer Share: By default, print jobs http://superuser.com/questions/124412/when-my-printer-fails-to-print-with-only-printer-error-as-the-message-how-can on Windows Server are not logged in the Windows Event Viewer, but can be extremely helpful when trying to troubleshoot issues that rely on tracing a job from the start to finish of it’s event log print trip! It can also be useful to assist with troubleshooting printing/driver related problems. Windows 2012 To enable this option go to: Start → Server Manager → Tools → Event Viewer. From here, you will want to expand Applications and Service Logs, then go to Microsoft → Windows → Print Service → Operational. This is more than likely due to a HotFix from Microsoft needing to be installed. Microsoft KB article: 979241 This KB article is described as: No event is added to the System log or to an operational channel when a print job is canceled or deleted. In laymans terms, this means that the Pausing, Resuming and Deletion of print jobs in Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 may not be logged. This can be exceptionally useful in tracking down where print jobs are deleted, especially if you haven’t tightened security on your print queues. Please liaise with your Microsoft Vendor / Advisor and see if this HotFix is suitable for your environment. Categories: Administration, Ti
