Anything else you feel like you can tell us? Are you wanted someone to explain the error message or fix some script. You may want to try stackoverflow. –Patrick R Jan 30 '10 at 23:08 add a comment| 4 Answers 4 active oldest votes up vote 3 down vote The best anybody can do without more information, since you've given almost none, is guess. Here's mine: You've either got a missing semicolon or parenthesis or curly brace somewhere (or some other delimiter or bracketing character) or there are DOS line endings (\r\n) where there should be Unix ones (\n). share|improve this answer answered Jan 31 '10 at 0:19 Dennis Williamson 41k866106 add a comment| up vote 3 down vote Long shot, but try adding AddHandler application/x-httpd-php .php to your apache configuration file. share|improve this answer answered Jan 31 '10 at 8:40 rytis 1,7321013 add a comment| up vote 2 down vote Try to see if your web server has something like this i.e in Apache: ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/

It worked on sles 11, but now, even phpinfo doesn't work. So for testing, I use this simple line which on the command line as through php -f test.php works fine. When calling it from a browser using an url in the cgi directory, it leads to an error 500. The apache error log shows 'exec format error' and 'end of script before output http://stackoverflow.com/questions/28499844/php-scripts-get-exec-format-error-or-permission-error headers' when running it with owner root:root without shebangand line. When I add an explicit header and a shebang line so that the script looks like this #! /usr/bin/env php the result is a 'malformed header' error in apache's log file. The file's permissions are set to -rw-r--r-- all the time. When changing ownership from root:root to wwwrun:www, nothing changes. From normal htdocs directory, the browser prompts to download the file. I have made sure that bot php5 and apache2-mod_php5 packages are installed. I'd be happy if anyone could give a hint on how to get php scripts running on this. Thanks! php linux apache suse share|improve this question asked Feb 13 '15 at 12:40 3840 457 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote accepted Ok, figured it out myself: The mod_php5 package was installed, but that didn't automatically activate it. Do: a2enmod mod_php5 rcapache2 restart The file needs to be configured as follows: -rwxr-xr-x 1 wwwrun www 54 Feb 13 13:43 test.php share|improve this answer answered Feb 13 '15 at 13:00 3840 457 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest Name Email Post as a guest Name Email discard By posting your answer
