Error: File Does Not Exist. Sas
active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote Some web client with the IP 175.101.XX.XX wants to retrieve some file named "undefined" from your server. Since that file doesn't exist, your server answers with a 404 error. share|improve this answer answered Aug 28 '13 at 7:23 vautee 296210 cpanel error log shows [Tue Aug 27 19:46:54 2013] [error] [client 175.101.xx.xx] File does not exist: /home/sitename/public_html/foldername/undefined, referer: mydomain.com –user1844933 Aug 28 '13 at 7:35 So it looks as if on the site you mentioned ( mydomain.com/memberpage.php ) there's a link towards that 'undefined' filename. That's what's called Referer (see original log line) –vautee Aug 28 '13 at 8:48 I will receive email from my site at the time of user registration, login and activities performed in member page, but there is no mail from 175.101.XX.XX and there is no entry in my database for this IP, then how it possible to enter to member page? is it client system infected by virus? –user1844933 Aug 28 '13 at 9:06 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote undefined is the keyword of choice for Javascript when you try to do something that is, well, undefined. Maybe something on your website is trying to do an AJAX request using a file name that's pulled from a form element, but the form element doesn't exist. This is not something to be fix

For example: File does not exist: /home/httpd/vhosts/studentlife.co.il/httpdocs/help_center/div.hot-jobs File does not exist: /home/httpd/vhosts/studentlife.co.il/httpdocs/solutions/function.filesize File does not exist: /home/httpd/vhosts/studentlife.co.il/httpdocs/work_abroad/div.publish Now I don't understand - how did my divs and functions suddenly turn into files?? Of course they do not exist, they are divs and functions written in the code. So I am not sure why I http://stackoverflow.com/questions/548883/apache-error-log-file-does-not-exist am getting these file does not exist errors. Also, how can I debug this, since in no place am I trying to access files with these names? Any insight will be great. apache error-logging share|improve this question edited Aug 8 '13 at 14:12 Keith Smiley 30.4k95575 asked Feb 14 '09 at 10:20 user49226 76248 add a comment| 5 Answers 5 active oldest votes up vote 6 down vote I would say don't worry about it. I can make a request for /the/answer/to/life/the/universe/and/everything.42 and it would show up in your error log. Probably some spider is hunting for vulnerabilities in your site and it's randomly trying URLs. If you see the same pages a lot then start checking to see whether you have any broken links, otherwise forget about it. share|improve this answer answered Feb 14 '09 at 10:23 Gareth 64.7k23121139 Also - see the access logs. If all those requests have status 404 (e.g. are really nonexistent), there's no problem as Gareth said. –Olaf Kock Feb 14 '09 at 10:34 Another idea is to look up the IP address. We had requests from 173.177.91.133 and it turns out it's a static Facebook IP, coming from either a crawler of theirs, o
