This discussion is locked mrstee Level 1 (89 points) Peripherals Q: ink levels for HP printer and HP Printer Utility stuck in Dock...... Well, I thought I'd open the Printer Setup Utility tonight to check the ink levels before printing a Father's Day card I made for my hubby and of course it quit and come to find out that that particular utility is no longer supported in Leopard (even though it's on the Install DVD's). So I go to System Prefs and open up Print & Fax. Go to Options & Supplies. "Information Not Available" is the message I get. So how do I find out the ink levels on my HP 5150 Printer? And also, how do I remove that HP Printer Utility from the Dock? Force quit does NOT work. I need help! I need sleep. Thanks for the help, Judy 15" MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.5.3), 2.2mhz/200G hard drive/24" second monitor Posted on Jun 12, 2008 6:53 PM I have this question too by John Blanchard1,Solvedanswer John Blanchard1 Level 5 (5,334 points) Mac OS X A: Hi mrstee - I am sorry that I wasn't specific. I meant the toolbar in the printer's proxy application, the one that is opened when you double-click on the printer's name in the printer list in Print & Fax prefs. I may be confusing Tiger and Leopard, but I am pretty sure there is a Utility button in that window's toolbar for launching the Utility. It won't be available though if you didn't add the printer with the HP driver.Manually launching it from /Library/Printers does the same thing though, so it sounds like you'll have to wait to hear from HP to resolve this - sorry about that.Glad to hear that the restart got it out of the dock at least. If you wanted, we could check Console to see what's causing it to crash, but it's almost certainly in the HP code.Have you tried deleting and re-adding the printer? Or resetting the print system in Print & Fax Prefs (hold down the Control Key while clicking in the list of printers)? That may help, and it won't hurt anything - except having to re-add your printer.Have a great weekend too.
