MS Update uses the same WinHTTP Auto Discovery Proxy settings. Please find below two possible fixes winhttp error 12029 for this problem. 1 The import for the client computer should be Direct Access ( No proxy server ). Please check the proxy configuration in Windows 7 and above with the following command, open

a Command Prompt window, ‘As an Administrator’: netsh.exe winhttp show proxy All lower case with the spacing. If there is a configured proxy change it to direct access with, netsh winhttp>reset proxy 2 For MS Update connection related errors, or differences in the use of the WinHTTP Auto Discovery Proxy settings please also run the diagnostic tool for Windows 7 and above here, http://go.microsoft.com/?linkid=9830262 (direct download) For the email,

Another consideration that may affect the update process is if the Windows Time service is not configured properly. Check the time service as this may interfere with the updater bridge, WinHTTP Auto Discovery, service.
