Click to expand... Well, we talk about this a lot, and I suppose we'll be talking about it forever. But most of those portals or CMS are not designed to run in an environment with resource limitations. You have to pare most of them down in order to get any consistent performance out of them. Your "practically empty" portal, if it's trying to load half a dozen different modules, can use a lot of memory. We have seen DotNetNuke installations spike up to 500 or 600 mb of memory use when they start up. Obviously that's going to create problems in many shared hosting environments (and ironically, you really don't want to be at a host where it doesn't cause problems, because it seems good for you on the surface, but your site will suffer when your neighbor's site suddenly decides to use a gig of memory). We have a lot of users who do run DotNetNuke. But they are not running standard out-of-the-box installations. Try disabling any modules or plugins you don't think you will use. mjp, Aug 31, 2009 #3 realhackern mjp said: ↑ ...We have a lot of us
for an Application Pool Crash Issue: If you receive an HTTP Error 503message, it is highly likely that your IIS application pool has stopped. Cause: There are two common causes for this issue: Your website is sustaining an extremely high amount of CPU which could significantly impact the performance of your server. In order to protect the stability of the server, the website was recycled (restarted). During the recycle, you will receive "Service Unavailable", however, the website will reactivate itself shortly. Your website has hard-crashed multiple times in rapid succession which has triggered Rapid Fail Protection. Rapid Fail Protection is a feature in IIS that monitors your website for hard-crashes, and if a certain number of errors occurs in a certain amount of time, it will deactivate the website. If the website hard-errors more than 5 times in 5 minutes, this indicates that the website is most likely malfunctioning and will need to be manually reactivated by following the workaround below. Resolution: If you are receiving the Service Unavailable error because of high CPU utilization Upgrade to a hosting plan that is more in line with your needs Disable the component that is causing the CPU spike or hard-crashes. The component can usually be quickly identified by looking at the most recent DotNetNuke event log entries as well as the most recent DotNetNuke scheduled task executions. To view the site log, login as host. Click on Admin > Site Log. Change Report Type to Detailed Site Log. To view the scheduled tasks, login as host. Click Host > Schedule. Workaround: A quick workaround to get your site back up is as follows: Log into your Control panel Go to System > Domain> click on your domain. In Plesk 9, in the Additional Tools section click on IIS Application Pool. In Plesk 11, in the My Subscriptionssection click on your domain. Choose the Websites and Domainstab. Click on Show Advanced Operations> Dedicated IIS Application Pool for Your Websites. In Plesk 12: In My subscriptions, click your domain, and choose websites and domainstab at the top. Click show morein the middle of the domain controls at the bottom, and select Dedicated IIS application Poolfor your websitesand then click recycle In Plesk 12.5: In My subscriptions, click your domain, and choose websites and domains tab at the top. Select Dedicated IIS application Pool for your websiteand then click recycle Click Startif it is sto
