Another consideration that may affect the update process is if the Windows Time service is not configured properly. Check the time service as this may interfere with the updater bridge, WinHTTP Auto Discovery, service. When that happens, the only way to "fix" the error is to restart winhttp error 12029 the service, and occasionally the errors will not go away until Windows (the server) is restarted. Interestingly enough, this error appears "gradually": getting some of them for some https queries, then after some time, the service gets them for 100% of https queries, then later on, they popup even for regular http queries (the service makes lots of http & https queries, on the order of dozens per seconds, to many servers). The HTTP connections are made directly, without any proxies. The OS is Windows 2012 R2. AFAICT there is no memory leak or corruption, outside the 12175 errors, the rest of the service is operating just fine, no access violations or suspicious exceptions, service responds to queries normally, etc. I have a suspicion this could be related to Windows Update doing OS certificate updates, renewing credentials or something, but I could never positively confirm it. Anyone else has observed this behavior? Any workarounds? windows https winhttp share|improve this question asked Jul 6 '15 at 13:08 Eric Grange 3,9571546 add a comment| active oldest votes Know someone who can answer? Systems, Databases, Application Server, etc., in the context of this documentation is for illustration purposes only. iGrafx doesn't imply that the provided examples are the best or only way of configuration for the described scenario. Nor can we guarantee that it is the best option for performance and security. You apply the instructions at your own risk, please consult an expert of the 3rd party software if you are not sure. Problem Connecting the iGrafx Desktop Client to the iGrafx Platform result in an error message: WinHttp Error 12175. A security error occured Details When using HTTPS and certificates, the user has to make sure that the windows machine completely trusts the server certificate when the iGrafx Desktop Client needs to connect to a server using HTTPS. While browsers offer the ability to connect to a page with an untrusted certificate, ignoring the security implications, the iGrafx Desktop Client will not allow this. The iGrafx Desktop Client - if encountering an untrusted certificate - will issue a WinHttp Error 12175 instead. Solution For testing purposes, i.e. using a self-signed certificate, this can be resolved by adding the self-certificate to the Trusted Root Certificate authorities on the machine the iGrafx Desktop Client is installed. In a production environment you need to make sure the certificate chain is correct.
