is denied due to server configuration. Mar 18, 2011 05:04 PM|AlexDinu|LINK I've upgraded an .net 2.0 web application to .net 4.0 and I'm trying to setu it up on a new 2003 server. I can run the solution fine in it's own dev server, but when I deploy to IIS, I get the following: HTTP Error 401.2 - Unauthorized: Access is denied http error 401.2 - unauthorized iis7 due to server configuration. Internet Information Services (IIS) I need to run it in integrated windows authentication. When I add some logging to my main page, default.aspx, I see that I'm hitting gloabal.asax but it won't load the other aspx pages in my frameset. I don't think it create a cookie either. I know this is something to do with permissions, but I can't put my finger on it. Alex Reply owjeff 680 Posts Re: HTTP Error 401.2 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to server configuration. Although the systems I manage typically run smooth sometimes the 401.2 error will http error popup on a website or web application configured in IIS. All our systems are configured to run with Windows Authentication enabled and everything else is disabled. Typically to resolve this issue for a web application I can remove the application and then re-add it without making any additional changes. When the issue affects a website removing and re-adding it doesn't work. In addition to that I'd like to the root of what causes the random issues with this that popup. I've http error 401.2 compared copies of the web.config for the website and application.config with from various environments we have and found no setting that appears to be causing the issue. I've even uninstalled and re-installed the windows authentication feature with no luck. Please if you can give me some items to review and identify the issue I would appreciate it. web-applications iis-7 share|improve this question edited Nov 29 '12 at 16:43 user1706953 asked Nov 28 '12 at 19:38 DMudge 57729 Additionally changing application pools has no effect on the authentication issue. I've copied the web directory and created a new website using the same application pool. The new website works as expected. And checking the application.config before and after the website is setup, shows the only change was adding the website. –DMudge Nov 28 '12 at 20:53 I resolved this issue by changing the physical path of the site to something else, then back to the correct directory. I'd still like to find out the issue here, so if anybody can provide insight that would be great. –DMudge Nov 28 '12 at 21:44 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote accepted I resolved this issue by changing the physical path of the
MVC 3 web application work through IIS 7.5 Express, and when I ran the application I got the following error. Exception Access is denied. Description: An error occurred while accessing the resources required to serve this request. The server may not be configured for access to the requested URL.Error message 401.2.: Unauthorized: Logon failed due to server configuration. Verify that you have permission to view this directory or page based on the credentials you supplied and the authentication methods enabled on the Web server. Contact the Web server's administrator for additional assistance. Solution As the first step I had to look at the web.config. The authentication mode was set to Windows Authentication.
