Nov 27, 2006 08:18 AM|tomkmvp|LINK It means the NTFS permissions are not set correctly. You could compare them to what's set for "wwwroot" and make sure "support" is set the same way. Nov 14, 2008 12:35 PM|ehausig|LINK I'm getting the same message after upgrading my project from Visual Studio 2005 to Visual Studio 2008. My solution contains a WebSetup project that was also upgraded. When I install the 2005 version on the site, it works fine. But when I install the 2008 version, I get the following error: "HTTP Error 401.3 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to an ACL set on the requested resource." I added auditing to the c:\inetpub\wwwroot_associates\ folder to try to determine what is failing, but my Securit

I created a new site on IIS Manager, mapped it to a folder on my file system and added index.html to the folder. I have set the port to 85 for this site. When I try to access http://localhost:85/index.html, I get the following error message: 401.3 - unathorized - You do not have permission to view this http://stackoverflow.com/questions/19162553/iis-401-3-unauthorized directory or page because of the access control list (ACL) configuration or encryption settings for this resource on the Web server. I gave read access to everybody on the folder and tried again. I could then access the page. I then compared the properties of my folder with that of wwwroot. I found that wwwroot had read access on IIS_IUSRS...When I did the same on my folder and tried again, I got the above error again. I checkedthat anonymous access is enabled by default, but I still get this error. Why does this happen? What is the correct way to resolve the problem? iis iis-7 share|improve this question asked Oct 3 '13 at 15:00 Aadith 3,160103869 add a comment| 4 Answers 4 active oldest votes up vote 49 down vote I have struggled on this same issue for several days. It can be solved by modifying the security user access properties of the file system folder on which your site is mapped. But IIS_IUSRS is not the only account you must authorize. In IIS management console, in the Authentication part of the configuration of your site, modify the "Anonymous authentication" line and check the account set as "Specific user" (mint is IUSR). G

I already has IUSR and Server\IUSR will the Read permission. Mine problem turned out to be encrypted folders that were extracted from a Zip file. If the folder name are green, try removing the checkbox from the Advanced settings of the Property box. This fixed my issue. –Lionel Morrison Dec 6 '14 at 2:30 add a comment| 11 Answers 11 active oldest votes up vote 98 down vote accepted IIS 7 also creates "IUSR" as default user to access files via IIS. So make user IUSR has read access to files/folders. How to check if IUSR has read Access? I was searching for IUSR on my work domain and finding nothing. Then I changed the location to my machine name. –Mike Blandford Apr 8 '11 at 14:50 6 Note: It required both IUSR and IIS_IUSRS having access for it to work on my machine. I tried removin
