Solved Authorization failed by an ISAPI/CGI application Posted on 2005-03-08 Windows Server 2003 1 Verified http error Solution 5 Comments 4,138 Views Last Modified: 2007-12-19 I am getting this error: HTTP Error 401.5 - Unauthorized: Authorization failed by an ISAPI/CGI application. I am running IIS 6 and am trying to set up movabletype (blogging software) on a server within our intranet. When I try to access the CGI application http://IPaddress/mt/mt.cgi I get the above error on non http error 401.5 IE browsers. On an IE browser I get a windows login box. What I am trying to do is make it so that anyone can access this page (which has its own login in it). I gave IUSR_ComputerName account Full Control to see if that would help but it hasn't. Any suggestions? 0 Question by:aenders Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 5 Best Solution byTJworld Yes, you need to be sure that ALL executables and data files your CGI application uses has read/execute NTFS permissions for the user account it runs under. By default, the log files are created in the directories daily, and the log files are named by using the date. For example, a log file may be named as follows: exYYMMDD.log Common HTTP status codes and the causes The causes of some common HTTP status codes are as follows: · 200 - OK. IIS 7.0 successfully processed the request. · 304 - Not modified. The client browser requests a document that is already in the cache, and the document has not been modified since the document was cached. The client browser uses the cached copy of the document instead of downloading the document from the server. · 400 - Bad request. The Http.sys file blocks IIS 7.0 from processing the request because of a problem in the request. Typically, this HTTP status code means that the request contains characters or sequences that are not valid or that the request contradicts the security settings in the Http.sys file. · 401.1 - Logon failed. The logon attempt is unsuccessful probably because of a user name or a password that is not valid.
