Sep 04, 2013 07:33 AM|MattLong|LINK Hi, I'm setting up my first site on IIS 7.5.7600.16385 on Windows 2008 Server R2 Standard, and for some odd reason I'm the only user that can authenticate to the site. All other users get the "401 - Unauthorized: Access is denied due to invalid credentials" error message. 401 Error Message http://www.longwaysolutions.com/tkanetest/tmp/wiki/401_Unauthorized.jpg Windows Authentication Settings http://www.longwaysolutions.com/tkanetest/tmp/wiki/Authentication.jpg Folders settings showing everyone has access. http://www.longwaysolutions.com/tkanetest/tmp/wiki/FolderSettings.jpg Any ideas what I'm missing? Sep 05, 2013 06:13 AM|Terry Guo - MSFT|LINK Hi Mattlong, According to your description, my understanding is that you want to cancel the authentication. If so, please try to refer to the following solution: Please try to check you Authentication Rules, have not setup limit, and if there have not Allow All User please create it: Double click the "secure" web directory again and select "Authorization Rules". Remove all the rules except the "Allow All Users" rule. Click "Add Allow Rule…" and select the "All users" radio button and click the "OK"

I already has IUSR and Server\IUSR will the Read permission. Mine problem turned out to be encrypted folders that were extracted from a Zip file. If the folder name are green, try removing the checkbox from the Advanced settings of the Property box. This fixed my issue. –Lionel Morrison Dec 6 '14 at 2:30 add a comment| 11 Answers 11 active oldest votes up vote 98 down vote accepted IIS 7 also creates "IUSR" as default user to access files via IIS. So make user IUSR has read access to files/folders. How to check if IUSR has read Access? Right Click -> Folder -> Properties -> Security Tab See if IUSR is in Group or user names list, If No. Click Edit -> Add -> Advanced -> Find Now -> Select IUSR and

I can get http error the sites running ok but am getting 401 errors for all the CSS / Images in the sites. Granting Everyone read access will solve this - but I'm not very happy doing this. I've read that IIS7.5 makes use of a magical new 'account' and each Application Pool has its own account. So far I have Created a new folder in wwwroot for my website (kbank) Copied the files in from another machine In IIS7 created a new website (not virtual directory), this created http error 401 a new Application Pool with the same name as my website. This is an Integrated Pipeline pool In Process Model / Identity this is using ApplicationPoolIdentity and Load User Profile is set to True Granted IIS AppPool\kbank read access to the root of the folder Can anyone tell me how best to set up my websites. iis-7 iis-7.5 http-status-code-401 share|improve this question edited Oct 30 '09 at 12:27 Kev 82.8k36225317 asked Oct 29 '09 at 14:23 Simon Martin 2,58573266 closed as off topic by Will Apr 8 '13 at 2:12 Questions on Stack Overflow are expected to relate to programming within the scope defined by the community. When you granted the account read access, did you check that it replaced settings in all subdirectories. Also it may require an IIS reset after changing the access rights. share|improve this answer answered Oct 30 '09 at 12:36 Shiraz Bhaiji 41.7k21108210 Hi Shiraz, Always worth check
