It's a classic asp site, that used to work until the path to the files was changed. The path had to be changed because the site had to be upgraded. After getting the error; putting back the original path doesn't either. Does anyone have any idea what I should check to resolve the above mentioned error? ssl asp-classic https iis-6 share|improve this question edited Nov http error 403.4 23 '11 at 19:23 Joel Coehoorn 249k92440661 asked Jan 26 '11 at 17:13 user220583 1 Sounds like your cert isn't correctly installed. Telling the browser to use SSL (https) won't matter unless the site is actively bound to a cert, and listening for SSL requests. In IIS, have you checked your directory security tab to ensure that your cert is installed correctly? –George Johnston Jan 26 '11 at 17:19 Is it possible to get screwed up if you change the location of the files? –user220583 Jan 26 '11 at 17:20 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote accepted Try following Configuring SSL on a Web Server or Web Site (IIS 6.0) from Microsoft. It specifically mentions the error you get: If you set your Web site to require SSL, as in step 6 above, and you have not completed setting up SSL for the site, then users browsing your site will receive this error: "HTTP Error 403.4 - Forbidden: SSL is required to view this resource." To avoid this condition, either complete all the steps in the list above, or go back and clear the Require Secure Channel (SSL) check box (see step 6). share|improve this answer answered Jan 26 '11 at 17:43 akiller 1,7631220 Awesome, I'll try that. –user220583 Jan 26 '11 at 17

If the user accesses it by typing in https://www.site.com it comes up but if they type any of the following in the address bar...: http://site.com http://www.site.com site.com www.site.com ...IIS returns the following error page: HTTP Error 403.4 - Forbidden The page you are trying to access is secured with Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). How do I tweak the settings so that if a user navigates to any of the above that IIS will automatically take them to https://www.site.com ? Thanks. iis-7.5 https share|improve this question asked Dec 19 '11 at 14:21 Tom 2592517 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 2 down vote accepted Several ways: The easiest is simply to create a web site bound on port 80 containing only a default page with a meta refresh in the header: A little more complex: install URL rewrite for IIS and configure it to forward all HTTP request to the equvalent HTTPS request. Watch it because you might need to rewrite the host name as well (see this for a simple exemple) share|improve this answer answered Dec 19 '11 at 14:47 Stephane 5,10911537 1 The IIS redirect module will work just fine, too. –Shane Madden♦ Dec 19 '11 at 16:18 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest Name Email Post as a guest Name Email discard By posting your answer, you agree to the privacy policy and terms of service.
