I've got IIS 8 on Windows 8, how to fix http error 503. the service is unavailable and I'm trying to set up a little site locally, while doing some development. In IIS I choose Add Site, give a name, points to a location where I have a index.html file (I've tried different locations, latest in a c:\inetpub\wwwroot\test -folder) and otherwise use all default settings. However, when I try to browse to localhost I get "HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable." I've verified the pool is started, and I've given IIS_IUSRS Full Control on the

It's where it's going to live eventually anyway, so its perhaps a good thing. But thanks a lot for the input! –Andreas Nov 12 '12 at 21:31 14 Reason 1: The HTTP Error 503. is a common and frustrating problem that may occur for a number of reasons after a configuration change, or when deploying a new server machine. Another common service unavailable iis "what the hell just happened" error is the plain 503 “service available” error iis application pool keeps stopping that looks like this: Update: We recently launched a service that significantly helps you understand, troubleshoot, and improve IIS

and ASP.NET web applications. If you regularly troubleshoot IIS errors, manage Windows Servers, or tune ASP.NET performance, definitely check out the demo at www.leansentry.com. What is it? This error is generated http://stackoverflow.com/questions/13322937/iis-http-error-503-the-service-is-unavailable by the WAS (formerly W3SVC) service, which is responsible for creating IIS worker processes to handle incoming http requests. When WAS fails to create a worker process, it will generate this error. Why does it happen? There are a number of reasons why WAS may fail to start an IIS worker process. These include invalid application pool configuration, failure to create the process http://mvolo.com/where-did-my-iis7-server-go-troubleshooting-503-quotservice-unavailablequot-errors/ due to incorrect application pool identity settings, bad IIS configuration that causes the worker process to fail to initialize, or a process crash due to application logic. I will list the most probable reasons and how to investigate / fix them below. How do I get rid of it? Let’s get rid of it in 4 easy steps: STEP 1: Check whether your application pool is stopped Once WAS fails to start your worker process a set number of times, it goes into Rapid Fail Protection Mode and stops the application pool. This prevents application crashes from taking down the machine by going into a start process / fail loop when a persistent error exists. By default, Rapid Fail Protection is set at 5 times in 5 minutes. Once the application pool that contains your application has been stopped, all requests to applications in it will result in that plain 503 error. So, that’s the first thing we check: > %systemroot%windowssystem32inetsrvAppCmd.exe list apppools If your application pool is stopped, then we are on the right track. The next step is to check the event log for information ab
16, 20091 Share 0 0 While setting up repro for one of the customer on my Vista IIS 7.I ran into couple of issue(i’ll https://blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/jaskis/2009/05/16/iis7-503-service-unavailable-due-to-autostartfalse-for-app-pool/ post both) of my own.My application gave up with "Service Unavailable" "HTTP error 503" No matter whatever I browse .htm , aspx everything ends up with that error 503.Looking into event viewer to see something reported apparently that was clean. And this issue seem to be happening only with one particular app pool "MyTest".That forced me to try http error and create new app pool and see if that resolve the problem. Bingo!!! everything works like charm in the new app pool "MyTest2" . Obvious thing was to compare both the app pool setting in applicationhost.config
