And it's not booting from a CD at all still. That's why I'm at such a loss... Also the system keeps coming up with the 174 error message...anybody w/ a 600e know what's going on? DanmanX, Apr 4, 2005 #16 Jedi_Master Joined: Mar ibm thinkpad 12, 2002 Messages: 5,520 With the 600's ( and many Thinkpads ), in the BIOS you will have to go and change the boot drive(s) ( it's been a while ), but there is a menu where you will have to select the cd-rom as a valid boot drive ( don't remember the menu where it is )... then there is a menu for commit changes ( maybe, like I said it's been a while ), then exit... But...if ibm thinkpad error you can get into the BIOS, and have a bootable CD-ROM, you should be able to install the OS... Like I said, it's been a while since I've been in the BIOS of a Thinkpad, but the settings are there... This is entirely typical...when the battery went bad, you lost the CMOS configuration. Now you have to re-enter it along with the time and date. BUT if the DEFAULT config is good enough, then you only need enter te time and date. winbob, Apr 4, 2005 #19 Jedi_Master Joined: Mar 12, 2002 Messages: 5,520 Can you post the menus that are available in the BIOS ? Jedi_Master, Apr 4, 2005 #20 DanmanX Thread Starter Joined: Mar 27, 2005 Messages: 10 That's the problem. I've entered the date and time. It retains it. But it won't let me boot from the CD/DVD drive. It doesn't seem to make sense.... The test sequence keeps stopping on the memory also. So I'm guessing the memory must be bad....that's what must be throwing it off....oy....I guess I
