This error is generated due to a couple of different reasons. First, there may actually be a problem with the power http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/topic/31761/ circuitry and the CRC function is actually doing it's job reporting the error. There are several tests you can perform (described below) to tell if this is the case with your system. Second, this bad CRC error can be generated by sudden power loss to the system, especially if the system loses power during boot up or POST process. If this is the case with your system, we can repair this error. There is some work involved and the cost mentioned below is well justified. Below is the standard reply email that we send to CRC inquiries that will hopefully help you determine if your system is a good candidate for a CRC recovery. ========================================= In some rare cases there really is a problem with the system board and the CRC checksum routine is actually doing it's job. If this is the case, you will see erratic power behavior, random shutdowns / freezing / erratic power behavior on power up, before the CRC error surfaced. We cannot guarantee our CRC correction will last when power problems exist in the motherboard. Unfortunately, we cannot refund the CRC recovery cost. Our time is money and the programmers we hire to correct the CRC information co
Error message 0175, Bad CRC1, stop POST task Discussion in 'Hardware' started by brandonscott11, Dec 15, 2006. Should I be replacing the lithium backup https://forums.techguy.org/threads/ibm-thinkpad-t22-wont-boot-error-0175.308904/ battery? or would that cause this error message? I have also read that it is the eeprom chip that is corrupt. I can't get to the IBM BIOS setup Utility, or the temporary boot devices. Any ideas ibm thinkpad on how I can fix this or what the problem is? Thanks, Brandon brandonscott11, Dec 15, 2006 #1 Mada_Milty MajorGeek Yes, it may be caused by a dying CMOS battery, and for the cost of one (approx. $5 CDN), it is typically worth eliminating as a suspect. They are usually CR2032s, and can be found at most electronics stores like FutureShop, RadioShack, The Source, etc. You might also test your memory. I ibm thinkpad 0175 recommend Memtest86+ for the job. Mada_Milty, Dec 15, 2006 #2 brandonscott11 Private E-2 Thanks for the Advice, I tried a different stick of ram in it and it still had the same error, I also removed the lithium backup battery overnight and put it back in this morning and still get the same screen, are the lithium backup battery and the CMOS battery the same thing? Thanks Again, Brandon brandonscott11, Dec 15, 2006 #3 kjb125 Private First Class Yo...i think its going to be a motherboard issue (ahh..time to replace/fix) Here is were u can find IBM error codes: http://www-3.ibm.com/pc/support/sit...LWIK-3SR4PW&selectarea=SUPPORT&tempselected=5 kjb125, Dec 15, 2006 #4 kjb125 Private First Class just put your error code into the search bar on the Support and Downloads page...your code is at the top, i believe!! kjb125, Dec 15, 2006 #5 (You must log in or sign up to reply here.) Thread Status: Not open for further replies. Advertisement Russelllk Thread Starter Joined: Dec 17, 2004 Messages: 7 Hi, I have a friend's IBM Thinkpad T22 machine that won't boot. The machine is running XP Professional. On bootup it gets ERROR 0175: Bad CRC1, stop POST task. In looking up google I have found an IBM solution to upgrade the BIOS to the latest solution. My problem is I do not have password information if it is required. I am interested if anyone has used the procedure and whether it works. It warns that you cannot stop haf way as you may do hardware damage. http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-44186 thanks in anticipation Russell Russelllk, Dec 17, 2004 #1 Sponsor rockinmale Joined: Feb 7, 2003 Messages: 728 Im sorry, i hate being the bearer of bad news. The error 175 (Bad CRC1, stop POST task error) your receiving is not good at all. The only corrective action that ibm states about this error is to replace the system board/mb. A bios update is useless if the system board is faulty. Since you need it to post in order to install the bios update from a floppy. Here's a link to your error on the ibm website to see for yourself. http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docvie...-4K2MCU&loc=en_US&cs=iso-8859-1&cc=us&lang=en Im sure the term FRU may sound alien to you, but it stands for field replaceable unit. I did a search on ebay and found some t22 system boards for around $100. Although, i dont know if you can handle swapping out the motherboard. Since laptops are more delicate and trickier to work on than a normal pc. So its basically your call if you wanna try to replace the system board. Although, i cannot guarantee that this will fix the problem. Im sorry for your loss, but at least now you know what's wrong. Good luck!
