I have an IBM Thinkpad 600X notebook. The tracking point already doesn't work. I want to disable it and use an external mouse. Could you please give me a favor how to solve this problem? According to IBM manual, "Holding F1 and turn onthe system, then modify its BIOS !!!". I already try serval times, but this method doesn't work, the screen always show me "ERROR CODE 8611" at first, and then automatically enter into Windows XP system. NEVER SHO

On one occasion, it went into a selftest routine, and the system board showed the following faults:- "DEV 086, ERR 22, and FRU 0010", no idea what that signifies....trackpoint again? Also, like my own machine, it just sort of siezes up when half way through the Memory test.I don't know what this signifies, but my own machine seems to work OK so I'm assuming it's not terminal! EDITSince found this, viewtopic.php?f=6&t=17011&view=previous which seems to say that this (the system board reported faults) is just underlining the "error 8611"that appears upon boot. Regarding the concluding post, I'm not sure what "worked great", so it's still a bit of an enigma Top Profile Reply with quote RealBlackStuff Post subject: Re: Thinkpad 600E with "error 8611"PostPosted: Sun Feb 27, 2011 8:08 am Offline RBS15000 Joined: Mon Sep 18, 2006 5:17 am Posts: 1

I have been able to disable the option before, but i thought i might have fixed it, so i re-enabled it, and i can no longer get into bios, i have done what other people have suggested: F5 or F8 at the screen with error ibm thinkpad code-red symbol-ibm book, F12 at boot-up, go to setup which you get put into at error screen(this has never happened), and whats worse is tht i need to format the HDD as windows doesn't work properly - which i cant do due to the 8611 Error stevie901, May 20, 2009 #1 ddp Moderator Staff Member Joined: Oct 15, 2004 Messages: 38,773 Likes Received: 61 Trophy Points: 128 moved to correct forum as not an all other topics issue. ddp, May 20, 2009 ibm thinkpad 600e #2 dailun Regular member Joined: Mar 16, 2006 Messages: 3,132 Likes Received: 0 Trophy Points: 46 Well, you've already replaced the keyboard, which should normally fix this problem. If it's not that then you're looking at the main board. I have a 600X that I upgraded the CPU on, and it's barely functional as a DVD player for my kid. I think that you should just give it a decent burial and move on.
