Ibm Thinkpad Error 161 163
it came up with the error codes 00161 and 00163 which I understood indicated a flat CMOS / BIOS battery.I replaced the battery with a brand new one, but was unable to access the Easy Start Up menu by holding the F1 key down when the laptop was booting.Every time I tried it, it simply went to the error page listing 00161 and 00163.Am I doing something wrong or is the system ibm thinkpad error 00173 / mother board faulty ?Many thanks to anyone who can offer any help. Guest the ibm thinkpad 600e that i am working ibm thinkpad 600e cmos battery replacement with, on boot i get the three errors 00161, 00192, 00163. i replaced the cmos battery and thinkpad 380ed cmos battery it made no difference. i have tried getting into the bios by holding F1 before and throughout powerup to no avail. when it finally loads up to ibm thinkpad 380ed something, it is the classic ERROR screen with the three errors listed and the arrow pointing to the manual. i can click on ok or cancel and they both do the same thing, basically the ok and cancel button disappear and then i http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=104199 can do nothing but restart the computer with the power switch which then just starts the process over. any help would be greatly appreciated , Dec 13, 2004 #1 Advertisements Bruce Markowitz Guest First of all it is likely a 600, NOT an e, the e does not generally give the 192 (fan) error Are you sure, CERTAIN, ABSOLUTELY POSITIVE you put in a new, good CMOS battery. Try another, this is the classic CMOS battery errors. Buy a new battery and try. Many people have had the same problem with a "good" used battery. Those errors indicate a bad CMOS battery. The only option past that is a new system board, On 14 Dec 2004 10:22:02 -0800, wrote: >yes, it is a 600e not a 600, and yes i am positive the battery is good, >i did a voltage and current test before installing it > Bruce

Join Date Dec 2001 Posts 1,617 [RESOLVED] Post Error On Thinkpad I have an IBM Thinkpad 385 CD 2635-2eu running Win 95. I have not used this computer for a long time. I went to start it up and I am getting 2 short beeps with 2 error codes 00161 and 00163. The machine displays and error box and when I open this box it display a box to set time and date. I set it and it will not start the windows program. I noticed after I set the time and date it will not change. The time stays were I set it even after I shut it off and try to reboot. I think I may have a Bios battery problem. How do you find and change the battery in a thinkpad? But as that's probably stating the obvious maybe this might help as it looks like this http://www.apexbattery.com/ibm-think...y-b-304-2.html and replacement could be similar to this http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/si...id=MIGR-4YQNTP Reply With Quote August 24th, 2006,05:50 AM #3 SpywareDr View Profile View Forum Posts Visit Homepage VirtualDr PC Specialist Join Date Apr 2005 Location Maryland, USA Posts 17,239 00161 and 00163 mean the CMOS battery is dead (and because of this) the date/time need to be reset. This also means that your laptop's hard drive will not be recognized until you go into the CMOS Setup, make sure "Auto-detect hard drive" (or similar) is selected, (and while you're in there go ahead and reset the date/time). When you then select Save
