It will also give the beeps if no memory is installed. So far so good. If I choose either the F1 or F12 option it will take several minutes before giving a couple of beeps and returning the following screen (which I've tried to copy): Quote:PhoenixBIOS 4.0 Release 6.0 for IBM ThinkPadCopyright 1985-1999 Phoenix Technologies Ltd.All Rights Reserved© COPYRIGHT IBM CORPORATION 1999, 2001 ALL RIGHTS RESERVEDrestricted by GSA ADP Schedule Contract with IBM Corp.CPU = Intel® Mobile Pentium ® III processor 900 MHz640K System RAM Passed127M Extended RAM Passed0256K Cache SRAM PassedSystem BIOS shadowedVideo BIOS shadowedUMB upper limit segment address: DC00Mouse initializedERROR0175: Bad CRC1, stop POST task.Preparing Boot Device List … This particular example is with the F12 option selected. Only the last line changes with the F1 option (or if no option is selected). So it looks like there is a problem with the bios but shouldn't a CRC error occur at the start and not after what appears to be a successful POST operation?? I'm confused and would appreciate some clarification on what's going on. By the way, I've searched around and discovered that this particular 0175 CRC error is not uncommon amongst the T2* series and may be related to the power-up problem that affilicts the series. The owner of the laptop said he woke up one m

This error is generated due to a couple of different reasons. First, there may actually be a problem with the power circuitry and the CRC function is actually doing it's job reporting the error. There are several tests you can perform (described below) to tell if this is the case with your http://www.hardwareanalysis.com/content/topic/31761/ system. Second, this bad CRC error can be generated by sudden power loss to the system, especially if the system loses power during boot up or POST process. If this is the case with your system, we can repair this error. There is some work involved and the cost mentioned below is well justified. Below is the standard reply email that we send to CRC inquiries that will hopefully help you determine if your system is a good candidate for a CRC recovery. ========================================= In some rare cases there really is a problem with the system board and the CRC checksum routine is actually doing it's job. If this is the case, you will see erratic power behavior, random shutdowns / freezing / erratic power behavior on power up, before the CRC error surfaced. We cannot guarantee our CRC correction will last when power problems exist in the motherboard. Unfortunately, we cannot refund the CRC recovery cost. Our time is money and the programmers we hire to correct the CRC information cost money. With that said... Most of the time, CRC errors are generated from a password removal attempt or sudden (user created) "Shutdown" or "Restart" condition and these situations are repairable. How can you tell if your ThinkPad is a good candidate for a CRC repair? We suggest you try the following tests: 1) Start the system and watch the status lights in the

I was using it a few minutes ago and in the middle of my work it just shut down on its own. I tried turning it back on but it won't. I thought it was a power problem. I removed the battery and plugged it in. Nothing happened. I put the battery on again and turned it on. It was ok for a few minutes and turned off again. I pressed the power button one more time and before it would turn off I was able to press the F1 or F2 button for the BIOS. It says "Error 0175: Bad CRC1, stop POST task." What is
