Expert 109 Answers Re: thinkpad 380ED error 161 163 Replace CMOS battery and reset time and date. Turn the computer over. Loosen 1 screw on RAM and CMOS door and lift door away. CMOS battery is to the left of the RAM chip (if you have the extra RAM installed.) Using a very small flat screwdiver, gently insert it under the bottom edge of the battery itself, between the rdge of the battery and it's holder, and GENTLY pry up the bottom edge of the battery. They are less than $4.00. Make sure that you have the new battery correct side up and insert it back into the holder by sliding it in from the bottom and gently push down and the new battery will pop back in. Re-start your machine and when the errors pop up hit "enter" and then enter the correct time and date. You should be good to go from there. Don't let anyone badmouth your 380ED.
