Type: 2645350 S/N:55132RWConfiguration:CPU Pentium II 233 MHzRAM 288 MB (Internal 32 MB + 128 MB + 128 MB in expansion slots)HDD bay: 5 GB IBM HDDUltraslimbay: FDDWhen https://www.wimsbios.com/forum/notebook-bios-and-other-problems-f38/ibm-thinkpad-600e-bios-problems-163-173-t6331.html I switched on the Thinkpad first time I got error codes 161, 192 and 163. According to manual I should check the CMOS backup battery and I found out that CMOS backup battery was bad, when I measured the voltage it showed 0 V. So I changed the CMOS backup battery, now the battery shows 3 V.Now when I switch on the Thinkpad with the new CMOS battery, I get error codes 163 and 173. The window with error http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=105631 codes 163 and 173 pops up, I press OK, window with time and date settings pops up. I set the time and date, I have to change the time and date from default values (2000-01-01; 00:00:00) to actual values and I confirm it by pressing OK button.I hear double beep and restart is performed. After restart no error code appears and MS-DOS from HDD 1 is loaded.I switch off the Thinkpad. Now when I switch on the Thinkpad second time, again the error codes 163 and 173 appears even though I set the time and date before, window with error codes 163 and 173 pops up, I press OK, window with time and date settings pops up. I just confirm the time and date because the actual time and date remain and I confirm it by pressing OK button.I hear double beep and restart is performed. After restart no error code appears and MS-DOS from HDD 1 is loaded.I switch off the Thinkpad. When I go to Easy setup and then Test window and I perform test with all components (System board, Memory, Display, HDD1, FDD1, Parallel, Serial, DSP, Infrared, etc) I get test result OK for each component. When I press CTRL + A the window with connected FRU parts appears showing that all parts are connected instead Docking Unit.Does anybody know how to solve this problem with error codes 163 and 17

Hello WR2 ok, I do not have usb on the laptop this is the 760el only floopy and ps/2 port which I did try a external keyboard but that did not work either I saw the lights come on and off on the external keyboard but that was it. As far as the F1 to get into bios nothing seems to happen, so that is what let me to believe that something is wrong either the keyboard card or the keyboard its
on June 28, 2005 by Adam I had an old IBM Thinkpad that I bought used at a local computer show for Dena. A Pentium II 233Mhz with a 5G hard drive and 192M of PC100 RAM. Not exactly high end but hey, it's a Thinkpad and it was fairly cheap. After she got her Powerbook I installed Debian on it and used it as a backup laptop. A buddy of mine needed a machine for a while so I lent him the Thinkpad. I eventually got it back a year or so later but it wouldn't boot. Instead it greeted me with the BIOS error code "161, 192, 163″, which is computer speak for "What the fuck, I can't remember who or what I am." I did a little googling and found that this Thinkpad uses a very standard battery for CMOS, the CR2025, which can be bought damn near anywhere. I picked one up at Radio Shack for under $3.50 with tax. Getting to the BIOS battery is painfully easy. Remove the cover housing the memory and pull the top piece of memory. You might be able to work around it but why bother. From there, you can disconnect the battery lead and pull it free. It's just sitting there waiting for attention. The guy at Radio Shack was in awe of the yellowness of the battery. Apparently he's unfamiliar with modern marvels such as "shrink-wrapped plastic". In any case, we'll be cutting off the plastic coating shortly. Cut away the plastic coating. The negative and positive leads are stamped into the surface of the battery so you have to pry them off carefully. I used the flat blade of a screwdriver to work the lead away from the battery. Putting it back together is a bit of a cheap hack but it seems to work well enough. I cut small strips of electrical tape to secure the leads to the battery. I made sure to wrap the exposed leads to the wire so that there is no chance of them coming into contact with each other or anything el
