I have done a lot of reading here and this looks like a great community. I tried to search on this problem before posting, but couldn't find an exact https://www.cnet.com/forums/discussions/ibm-thinkpad-600e-error-codes-92447/ match to my problem. I bought a TP 600 2645 5NU on Ebay. The first few times I turned it on, it booted fine. But now it just gives me an ERROR 00192. When I run the test, it shows a system board error like this: DEV 001 ERR 96 FRU 3810 If anybody can help, I would be very appreciative. Also, maybe one of you 600 experts can help me on tis one. But if it is http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=37413 the system board, can I put one in from a 600E? I looked up the FRU part number from IBM and got 10L1711 for my TP600. When I plugged that into E-bay, I found a system board from a 600E: http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie ... Track=true Although my specific computer is not listed, the FRU compatibility seems to match? Can I indeed upgrade? If I could put a system board from a 600e in my 600, then maybe i can increse the processor speed too? Thanks for any info you can provide. The error codes can be decoded from the Hardware Maintenance Manual, available from here: 600/600E HMM Starting from page 43, there's a table of error codes. FRU 3810 refers to the fan (38 ) or the system board (10). What may be happening is that the fan is not spinning up when the system is first powered on, thus the error. As far as replacing the 600 motherboard with one from a 600E, I have no personal experience in doing that. If you search around the archives, I'm sure somebody has confirmed if rhis does or does not work. I have a couple of 600Es but have

The X series of extra-thin, extra-light notebooks for mobile workers will come in 8 different models, and join the rest of the revamped ThinkPad line, which also includes the T series for frequent travelers (thin and light), the A series for people looking for a desktop alternative (all-in-one), and the affordable i series. The one-inch thin X series will have 600 MHz Mobile PIII or 500 MHz Mobile Celeron chips and 12.1″ displays, a 56K modem, up to 20 GB hard drives, 64 MB of RAM minimum, and start at 3.1 pounds. The ThinkPad line of notebooks had lost a lot of popularity over the past few years ($1 billion lost in '98, $69 million last quarter) amid component shortages (still continuing, and many ThinkPads are still back-ordered and hard-to-find) and fierce competition from rivals Dell, Compaq, and Toshiba. IBM's notebook sales placed fourth in second quarter sales at 12.1% of the market, behind Dell (21.5), Compaq (16.6), and Toshiba (13.4). Corporate sales of the revamped ThinkPads h
380XD issues Discussion in 'Hardware' started by Speculant, Sep 27, 2009. Speculant The Confused One My friend gave me his old laptop, a Thinkpad 380XD, to install Linux on it so he could play some different games than the ones already on windows 98. Here is a list of issues: - The battery is dead. Not a real problem, he's just fine with plugging it in when he uses it. - The boot up process is muffed up. Here are the steps required to actually get into windows: 1. Click "on" button. Shows the "32MBs ok" for the RAM, and then goes directly into an "ERROR" window with the codes 00161, 00192, and 00163 below the "ERROR" text. It gives me the option to either click "OK" or "RESTART". I click "OK". 2. I have to set the date and time. I press "OK". The computer automatically restarts. 3. "ERROR" sign again, only this time it just displays the error code 00192. I can press either "TEST" or "RESTART". I press "TEST". 4. It comes to a testing screen, where i can test the various components of the laptop. I have already done this, and the only error that come up are when the systemboard is being tested, and those errors are "DEV 001", "ERR 96", and "FRU 3810". Every other component of the laptop checks out A-OK. 5. From the testing screen, I can either click "RESTART" or "EXIT". Clicking "EXIT" leads me to what I assume is a BIOS setup screen, with minimal configurable options, the most I can change is boot order, date/time, and password. Other than that it just gives me info on the BIOS and various other aspects of the laptop. From the main menu of the BIOS setup screen, I click "RESTART". 6. Same "ERROR" screen as step 3, I click "RESTART". 7. Boots up into a different screen, it kind of looks like this: 8. I have to manually reboot. 9. WINDOWS!!! How can I fix this so it boots up into the OS every time without having to reboot it
