It has all original shipped specs 512MB, 40GB HDD with XP Pro "Not sure if still installed but COA on side" and a DVD drive. I took the lid off and completely cleaned all the dust out and cleaned and put on new thermal paste on the CPU. I go to power it on and get Error 0176 The system has been tampered with. And says press F1 to enter Bios. It brings up a Enter password and just press enter and passes it up to bios. Once in Bios I can change stuff but will not save and exit, just has discard chages and exit. I removed the CMOS battery and nothing changed. _________________IBM: 700C,701C,760XD,770Z,600X,560X,560Z,570,310ED,380Z,390X, i1200,i1400,240,A22m,A22e,A30,G40, R31,R40,R50,R60,R61,T20,T23,T30,T40,T60,T61,X21,X30,X41,X41T,X60,X60T,Z60m,X3200 Server, NetVista M41 6792,M41 6790,X40 Aptiva 2170,ThinkCentre S50,S50 Ultra,A50p,M50,M51,WorkPad 20X,Z50 Top Profile Reply with quote RealBlackStuff Post subject: Re: Error 0176 The system has been tampered withPostPosted: Sat Feb 15, 2014 5:03 pm Offline RBS15000 Joined: Mon Sep 18, 2006 5:17 am Posts: 16404 Location: Mt. If their solution does not work for you, I believe that they have a feedback mechanism that may help.Good luck!EDIT to add- in further reading, it may be that your system board had decided to die on you. If that is the case, you will want to take as little action as possible until you have either replaced the system board or spoken to a professional. Your drive may be accessible through other means to retrieve your files. You DO have a recent backup???Good luck! 0Votes Share Flag Collapse - Error Code by stevekirkland100 · 10 years
09/10/12 01:11 PM My daughter has in storage an old IBM thinkpad. It wont load because of the error 0176. System has been tampered with. It also says check the date & time. I cant reformat it. The screen is locked & I need a 4 digit password to get in. What would it be? mightymoe Joined Sun 11/19/06 Posts: 33160 Mon 09/10/12 01:47 PM QUOTE: My daughter has in storage an old IBM thinkpad. What would it be? on most of those think-pads, there is a button, on the upper left i think, that will reformat the entire HD for you... it will erase everything and make it like you just brought it home from the store... I have even put in Windows XP disk to reformat and no joy. I just get the padlock and that 4 digit password.
