During the restore process, if you encounter Error 21, it means that you are trying to restore custom IPSW using the recovery mode. To fix this issue, you must put your iDevice into DFU mode.DFU or Device Firmware Upgrade mode allows all iDevices to be iphone 3gs error restored from any state. The actual difference between recovery and DFU mode is that when you put your iDevice into DFU mode, it do not loads iBoot automatically. When you put your iPhone in recovery mode, it loads iBoot which makes sure that the firmware you are trying to restore is greater or equal to the current firmware. To fix iTunes error 21, you must put your iDevice into DFU mode using the following instructions:Connect your iDevice to your PC or Mac via USB cable and launch iTunes.Hold down the Home+Power button for 10 seconds. After 10 seconds, release the Power button but keep holding the Home button until iTunes detect your iPhone in recovery mode.Once your iDevice is in DFU mode, you should see nothing on its screen. It should be completely blank.Even if your iDevice is in DFU mode, iTunes will detect it as a recovery mode device and will display a message as shown in the above screenshot. As soon as you see the above message, restore custom IPSW and hopefully this time you will not get iTunes Error 21.Be Sure to Check Out:Fix iTunes Err

I'm desperate, my iPhone stopped working suddenly (no apparent reason, didn't drop it or anything) and I don't have a home phone even so I can't call anyone at all! My iPhone was plugged in to charge when I got message saying "activation required." I tried resetting it and it wouldn't boot up properly, so I figured it would have to be restored (I have had to restore it once prior). When I try to restore it through iTunes I keep getting error 21 and it doesn't work. I am using Windows 7 Home Premium. I have tried: - restarting computer - updating iTunes - turning off antivirus - running Windows update - trying to restore in both recovery and DFU mode (I think, assuming I did it right?) - trying to restore using a different user profile. - using a different computer to attempt restore - everything in this - http://www.iphoneforums.net/forum/h...afe-method-restore-current-version-ios-26019/ - tutorial NOTE: from google it seems many people get error 21 because their phone is jailbroken. I did NOT jailbreak my phone (just saying this for diagnostic purposes). If anyone knows what I can do to fix my phone I will be extremely grateful. I really can't afford to buy a new one. Once that is done you will see the apple logo and the
