SERVER - FIX - Linked Server Error 7416 - Access to the remote server is denied because no login-mapping exists June 21, 2016Pinal DaveSQL2 commentsLast time I wrote a blog about linked server creation issue. As I

said, these are one of the most common issues. But as soon exec sp_addlinkedserver as such blogs get released, I get a number of requests around them immediately. Here is the blog linked server sql server 2012 post which is discussing about the linked server error.SQL SERVER – FIX – Linked Server Error 7399 Invalid authorization specificationAfter reading that one of the readers contacted me and told that https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/mdegre/2011/03/10/access-to-the-remote-server-is-denied-because-no-login-mapping-exists/ he is getting below error. On first look, I thought this was similar to what was published earlier. But things can surely turn out to be different. Since I had recently blogged about it, I thought to investigate this. To understand more, I looked at the error message in detail. It looks like:TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio -------------------- The linked server http://blog.sqlauthority.com/2016/06/21/sql-server-fix-linked-server-error-7416-access-remote-server-denied-no-login-mapping-exists/ has been created but failed a connection test. Do you want to keep the linked server? -------------------- ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: An exception occurred while executing a Transact-SQL statement or batch. (Microsoft.SqlServer.ConnectionInfo) -------------------- Access to the remote server is denied because no login-mapping exists. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 7416) -------------------- I played around with the linked server settings on the PC just to realize - I was able to reproduce the error by choosing 1st option in security tab. This was simpler than what I thought. So, I asked him to use either option 2 or option 3. After using right option, the error message disappeared.Do you remember seeing any such linked server error? Can you share your experience to what happened here this time? Leave a comment as we can learn from each other.Reference: Pinal Dave (http://blog.sqlauthority.com) Tags: Linked Server, SQL Error Messages, SQL Server28Related Articles SQL SERVER - Restore Sequence and Understanding NORECOVERY and RECOVERY July 15, 2009Pinal Dave SQL SERVER - Query to Find First and Last Day of Current Month - Date Function May 13, 2007Pinal Dave SQL SERVER - SSMS Tip: Ho
0 This is connection 2005 to a 2005 machine on same domain. Using a sql server account. I am able to login with https://ask.sqlservercentral.com/questions/112651/linked-server-error-no-login-mapping-exists.html SMS using the sql server account and execute a select statement. I am able to use another account and access the Linked Server through the link. If I connect to the other server (where the Linked Server was created), with the sql server account and then try to run the same query, but with linked server [LinkedServerName].[DatabaseName].dbo.[MyTableName], I get the error:Msg 7416, Level 16, State 2, Line 1 Access to the remote server is denied because no login-mapping exists. I know this sql server account has mapping, otherwise, I wouldn't be able to log into that server with this account and access various databases and tables. EDIT: EXEC master.dbo.sp_addlinkedsrvlogin @rmtsrvname = access to the N'APP', @locallogin = N'localaccount', @useself = N'False', @rmtuser = N'localaccount', @rmtpassword = N'&&&&&&&' When I use Local server login to remote server login mappings, it doesn't work (both servers have the same sql server login and password), but if I explicitly set to: Be made using this security context, it works. Is there some reason the local account can't get mappings as the Remote user? This is without Impersonate. Here is the version that works. EXEC master.dbo.sp_addlinkedserver @server = N'APP', @srvproduct=N'SQL Server' EXEC master.dbo.sp_addlinkedsrvlogin @rmtsrvname=N'APP',@useself=N'True',@locallogin=NULL,@rmtuser=NULL,@rmtpassword=NULL more ▼ 0 total comments 1487 characters / 217 words asked Jun 02, 2014 at 04:37 PM in Default Jeff O 142 ● 3 ● 5 ● 9 edited Jun 02, 2014 at 08:18 PM add new comment (comments are locked) 10|1200 characters needed characters left ▼ Everyone Moderators Original poster and moderators Other...
