Submit a support ticketWhat are Machine Check Exceptions (or MCE)?Last update: August 18, 2014Categories:Hardware / TroubleshootingIf you are seeing messages in your system logs that state "Machine Check Event logged" this could be an indication of a hardware problem or failure.A machine check exception is an error detected by your system's processor. There are 2 major types of MCE errors, a notice or warning error, and a fatal exception. The warning will be logged by a "Machine Check Event logged" notice in your system logs, and can be later viewed via some Linux utilities. A fatal MCE will cause the machine to stop responding and the de

through the Windows Hardware Error Architecture. When WHEA detects a machine check exception, it displays the error in a Blue Screen of Death, with the following http://www.advancedclustering.com/act-kb/what-are-machine-check-exceptions-or-mce/ parameters (which vary, but the first parameter is always 0x0 for a machine check exception):[1] *** STOP: 0x00000124 (0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000) On Linux, a process (such as klogd[2]) writes a message to the kernel log and/or the console screen (usually only to the console when the error is non-recoverable and the machine https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Machine-check_exception crashes as a result): CPU 0: Machine Check Exception: 0000000000000004 Bank 2: f200200000000863 Kernel panic: CPU context corrupt The error usually occurs due to failure or overstressing of hardware components where the error cannot be more specifically identified with a different error message.[clarification needed] Diagnosing the error message can be difficult, although Intel Pentium processors do generate more specific codes which can be decoded by contacting the manufacturer.[citation needed] Most MCEs require a restart of the system before users can continue normal operation, and indicate a long-term problem of a general nature.[citation needed] Contents 1 Problem types 2 Possible causes 3 Decoding MCEs 3.1 Programs to Decode MCEs 4 See also 5 References 6 External links Problem types[edit] Most of these errors relate specifically to the Pentium processor family. Similar errors may occur on other processors and will cause similar problems. Some of the main hardware problems that cause MCEs include: System bus errors: (error communicating be

Recently I got an FX-8350, it has a little overclock to 4320 Mhz but http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/117449/random-restarts-caused-by-a-machine-check-exception it is set automatically by the MoBo ( Asus m5a97 R2.0 ) The firts weeks it worked fine but 3 day a go i was running some multithread tests and the processor raised temp to 72° in the socket and 62° in the package (according cpuid monitor sw ). Computer turned off automatcally. after tu restar computer it worked fine but some issues started to machine check appear. Unexpectly while i am working, pc restart automatically, some time appear a blue screen with the message "whea uncorrectable error" (windows 8). Does not matter i am doing, surfing in the internet, or managing files etc. But for sure it ocurrs when i am on netflix after 3 or 4 mins. I thought that issue was provoked by silverlight or something like that but it doesnt matter. I can play for hours Need for Speed or StarScraft, but when i am machine check exception in windows doing something more the problem appears. i thought that problem was the processor temperature, i removed it and put new heatsink compound and also i removed the side covers of my case. After that, issue continues even when temperatures are between 40 and 53 degrees. The automatic shutdown is one of the issues, some times when the computer tries to boot again after the automatic shutdown, after the windows logo before to show the log in screen, computer shutsdown it self again and it turns a cicle of shotdown and boot for many times. Ok ! i said, windows is the problem, so i tried to install linux mint 15 to be able to continue in my work, and oh surprise... after to install mint, when computer tries to load the OS after the Grub screen appears this Hardware error (please follow the next link to see the screenshot): http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/2783/2h0z.jpg So, i started to think that issue is caused by a defective or damaged processor, but i am not really sure about that. I searched about this error but i did noy found something clear. Please, if somebody knows something about this problem i will appreciate your help, i want to discard all the options before to go to the cpu's warranty service, because that is problematic, probably AMD will send me to ASUS and ASUS will send me to AMD or both will send me to kingston, hahaha, i do

It shows the following error log before the restart. . Unfortunately I don't have an idea how to decode the Machine Check Exception (MCE). mcelog --ascii outputs nothing. Is there a chance that this is a software problem? The laptop is Samsung NP900X3C with the Intel Core i5-3317U processor. I use Arch Linux with the 3.13.5 kernel. kernel-panic mcelog share|improve this question asked Feb 28 '14 at 11:58 fhucho 95129 Unfortunately no :/ I get a restart about twice a day, totally random. –fhucho Sep 26 '14 at 9:32 I think it might be the kernel version maybe? It started happening only some time after I bought the notebook, so perhaps some kernel update caused it. When did it start happening to you? –fhucho Sep 26 '14 at 9:35 I'm sorry again, but trying to answer fhucho by commenting further, I get a "you must have 50 reputation for comments".
