Solved Outlook 2007 Error message - Receiving Reported Error 0X80040900 Posted on 2009-05-08 Email Protocols Outlook 1 Verified Solution 6 Comments 3,704 Views Last Modified: 2013-11-29 My client has been using http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/msoffice_outlook-mso_other/outlook-2007-cant-seem-to-find-my-sever-error/448e9a40-1c3a-43f4-8f49-de14f3ab883c Outlook 2003, but they have recently upgraded to Outlook 2007. Their email has been working fine since the upgrade to Outlook 2007. This morning, however, they started receiving the following error message while in Outlook. "Receiving Reported Error 0X80040900 - The server name you entered cannot be found on the network. It might be down temporarily. Verify that you are online and that the server name is correct." Incoming emails appear https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/24392977/Outlook-2007-Error-message-Receiving-Reported-Error-0X80040900.html through their online Webmail Account, but the incoming emails are not downloading into their Outlook account. They are also unable to send out emails from their Outlook account. Their website is up - www.pretc.net - just having problems with the emails downloading into Outlook. To me, this does not seem to be a problem with the hosting company that hosts the website and email, but rather a problem with their computer or Outlook program. Any help is appreciated. 0 Question by:joyceevans Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 1 Best Solution byretired2009 The error "The server name you entered cannot be found on the network" means their Exchange Server or what ever the Email Server they are connected to is not working, offline or network routing is not Go to Solution 6 Comments LVL 1 Overall: Level 1 Message Expert Comment by:nico-slo2009-05-08 Try disabling the windows firewall and any third party virus scanning/firewall temporarily. 0 LVL 1 Overall: Level 1 Message Expert Comment by:nico-slo2009-05-08 Also, verify the pop server is running by telnetting to it on port 110 (telnet "the name of the pop3 server" 110).
