Mail server pop3.live.com responded: authentication failed" This https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/236032 just started happening earlier today after having worked fine for a very long time. I tried a number of things to fix it, including clearing out the saved passwords and resetting my password at MSN and then trying the new password and nothing has helped. If I log in directly from the web browser into the MSN email account it works fine. As far as I can see https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1002941 the password and user name which is the full email address is being entered correctly. Thanks for any help! Hi. However, following some links to POP server settings, I found some advice to set a checkbox for POP. And when I found it, it was set to "off". I haven't checked the outcome of seeing this to "on" but it seems logical that if it's set to "off" then Thunderbird won't be able to connect
