I can boot from any of the above devices okay and but then I put my credentials I receive the https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/555644 message Error 5: Access has been denied.    I do not have this problem with Windows Server 2003.  The folder permissions are set so the non-domain account i'm using has full access within the shared and NTFS settings. I've changed the following local policies on the win2008 server but still no cigar;   Microsoft Network Client (always).. to enable If server agrees... to enable Send https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/844bb67a-6528-4f5d-b41c-b5d011027b18/error-5-access-has-been-denied-while-mapping-a-windows-2008-share-folder?forum=winservercore unencrypted password... to disable If client agrees... to enable Disconnect client when logon... to enable Network security: Do Not Store LAN Manager Hash Value... to disable Network security: LAN Manager authentication level... to sent NTLM response only   Can anyone assist with this problem?    Thx.   Tuesday, September 23, 2008 8:13 PM Reply | Quote Answers 7 Sign in to vote Here's what I did to solve this problem, hope it works for you. Set the following group policy settings:Computer Configuration -> Windows Settings -> Security Settings -> Local Policies -> Security Options:    Network Security: Do not store LAN Manager hash value on next password change - SET TO DISABLE    Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level - SET TO SEND LM & NTLM - USE NTLM v2 IF NEGOTIATEDRefresh group policy by restarting the computer or typing gpupdate /force in the run dialog box.Reset the password on the user account.  The password needs to be reset so that it stores the older LAN Manager hash value.Hope this helps someone. Windows 7: DOS networking (net use gives "error 5: access denied") 21 Jan 2011 #1 CNBarnes Win7 Enterprise 64bit 4 posts Texas DOS networking (net use gives ms dos "error 5: access denied") Let me say from the outset, this is probably not a Win7 question (at least, not per se). I am trying to get a piece of equipment in a machine shop (anilam 5300mk) that has a network card built in, to see a shared folder on the network. I have spent DAYS on the phone with their tech support person, ms dos error who seems to understand their equipment quite well, but not necessarily "modern" systems or networks. This mill machine boots into a flavor of DOS, starts it's network drivers, then has a program (written for DOS) that runs the machine. The network drivers all seem to be working. First, I made sure that the server is in the C:\Net\Hosts and C:\Net\Lmhosts files. Pinging the server is successful. Now when I try the command: Net Use G: \\frodo\Fryer user:Fryer /yes I get a different error message - "Error 5: Access has been denied" Which is better, but still not success. Attached is the security log from the server (frodo). It shows that the Anilam (machine name is \\mill) *IS* trying to connect to the server, but is being rejected. To test things, I created an account on a WinXP computer w/ the username of Fryer. I SUCCESSFULLY mapped the network drive \\frodo\Fryer (using the same password I've been using on the Anilam, of course). Which means the userid/password on the server is fine. In this case, the server is a Win2008 server. What am I missing? Additional: If I create a "fryer" acc
