I installed a WD 850MB (working) HDD in a DOS system, formated the drive, created the active partion and installed DOS. The install went fine, but when I boot I get a "Non-system disk" error. I tried reformatting and re-installing, but have had no luck. All the files are there, so, what gives? Also, it takes an amazingly long time to attempt the boot after the CMOS memmory count. If the sys.com program is not on your boot disk copy-it from your dos directory. ALSO...use fdisk to view the partition and ensure that it is set to ACTIVE. in DOS systems(DOS6.22 and earlier), an H.D. larger than 520mb needs a third party utility to make the whole drive visisble to the system..disk manager or D.O.D are 2 that come to mind. If you were to boot from a floppy disk, the steps would only differ slightly in the first few steps, as the floppy disk structures are slightly different.
