MSCDEX.EXE file. Try to replace your current MSCDEX.EXE with copy of this file from your Win95 CD. And one more suggestion. If you have access to CDROM drive, copy directory with Win95 *.CAB files to hard drive, then remove Autoexec.bat and Config.sys files from C:\ drive (for example rename them to Autoexec.bak and Config.bak respectively) and then reboot and install Win95 from hard drive. I've bought 2 new hard drives out of money that I had to save up (since I'm only 15) just so I can get windows 9x to install correctly. While the setup starts and scandisk is done checking the hard drives, it gives me a white screen saying that SUWIN.EXE or SETUPX.EXE or USEr.EXE...etc. has crashed and when I click close the setup closes and dos shows 'Bad Fault in MS-DOS Extender ' and then a bunch of numbers, forcing me to restart in order to TRY to install once again. I REALLY need help with this problem, if anyone can also give me an

Normally, I don’t have these type of issues and I can repair things quickly, but I have never run into anything like this. Long story made short: * Windows XP crashed horribly during regular usage (I was simply on IE). * Couldn’t find my ms dos extender original CD for XP, and my copy of it isn’t working for some reason. I also can’t use the CD’s that came with my HP and Compaq. Grr... So I couldn’t use the repair features. * I hid the partition and tried to install 98se on another. It keeps detecting the XP OS somehow even when hidden. * When 98 setup does scandisk, it prepares to install the OS and then crashes. I get the “Standard mode: Fault outside of MS-DOS Extender” error. (Described in more detail below). * I unplugged the hard drive (with XP hidden) where I was installing 98SE to. I left my other drive on only and then tried to install 98SE a new empty partition. * I still get the “Standard mode” error! Nothing I do can clear it up! I formatted the MBR and nothing still! I install from 98SE on CD or with the bin files on my PC and still the same error! * I had tried DOS network boot disks so I can copy the data from another PC over our small in house network, but no matter what settings I try, I cannot get the network boot disks to connect to the network!
