They work for plotting or for indices of vectors or matrices but they're not vectors so you can't operate on them. Like Show 0 Likes (0) Actions Re: Must be a scalar or

a matrix StuartBruff Jan 19, 2013 4:08 AM (in response to yeet) As Fred say, you can't add range variables. A range variable is an implied iterator - it provided the major form of iteration in the early versions of Mathcad before programming was added to provide the for loop. A range variable is quite distinct from a vector. A vector is a one-column array in Mathcad whereas a range variable is a variable that holds a range, a specialized data type of the form "start,next..end". You can't perform arithmetic on this data type, hence you can't add them together. Whenever Mathcad encounters a range variable in an expression it automatically iterates over each of the values obtained by expanding the range. When Mathcad encounters a vector (or other array) it operates on the vector as a whole. To allow me to make better use of range variables I created a general purpose function called vec that will convert a range variable into a vector - see attached worksheet for it application to your worksheet.Stuart add - range variable v vector.mcd.zip 12.2 K Like Show 1 Like (1) Actions Go to original post Actions Remove from profile Feature on your profile More Like This Retrieving data ... Using MathCAD, how mathcad this value do I define something as a function of a variable when that variable is also a function of another variable - like calculating $(f\circ g)(x)$, otherwise known as a composite function? Let me explain using an example... g := 32.2*ft/s^2 volume := 5*ft^3 (Notice that this is over a range of possible values) weight := 0.1*lbf,0.2*lbf...10.0*lbf (Notice that this is a function of the weight) mass(weight) := weight/g (Notice that this is a function of mass, but mass is a function of weight) density(mass) := mass(weight)/volume density(mass) = error (This value must be a scalar or a matrix) Of course I'm getting an error. Basically, I'm telling MathCAD that I want the weight to vary over a certain range, which means that the mass will vary as well, according to the range given to the weight. I don't know what that range will be - I want MathCAD to do the calculation for me and tell me what the masses could possibly be. Then, I want the density which will vary over a certain range, as specified by the range for the mass. By the way, the problem I'm solving is way
