Windows Server > High Availability (Clustering) Question 0 Sign in to vote Hi I'm trying to set up NLB with 2 servers running a single NIC in each. I have set it up using NLB manager and it works and both hosts are converged and in the cluster, but I get an error message "could not read configuration of interface" when I view the cluster through the NLB manager. My set up is: 10.10.1.2 (NIC1) 10.10.1.3 (NIC2) and 10.10.1.1 is the NLB address which is configure on both NICs, also it is using multicast. Any ideas what could be causing this? it does "appear" to work. Thanks Paul Wednesday, December 09, 2009 1:45 PM Reply | Quote Answers 0 Sign in to vote Is this 2k3 or 2k8? You need to set the TCP/IP properties on the NICs with 2k3. It should not be set to use DHCP. Verify that you have followed the steps in this document: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc782467(WS.10).aspx I think this has changed w/ 2k8, but I'm not sure. If I do an IPCONFIG it shows that the IP addresses I had assigned are there? What gives?? Thanks Paul Wednesday, December 09, 2009 3:28 PM Reply | Quote 0 Sign in to vote Is this 2k3 or 2k8? need your help with this problem. I´m trying to configue a NLB Cluster with Two Windows 2003 Web Edition. Here is what i´m doing: I open Nlb Manager and click Cluser / New --> I put all the information from the cluster : IP 10.250.100.100 / 24 - Unicast and the Full Name. I pass the other configurations and put the ip address of the host to connect...then i receive the following message: could not read configuration of interface {xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx} error 0x80041002 Why this happen? What am i doing wrong? My server has two nic´s but i´m just using one. What should i do to this work? Thanks in advance, Maurit. interface". If I try to install the NLB from Node 1 and add node 2 from node 1 I get the error but also if I scrap http://www.networksteve.com/forum/topic.php/Windows_2003_NLB_error/?TopicId=2632&Posts=3 the NLB and do it the other way around, so, configure it from node http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/27455-42-server-2008-questions 2 then node 1 goes into the cluster fine but node 2 (which is local) gives the same error which makes me think there is something wrong with node 2.Also, when I reboot the server the NIC loses it's IP address so it doesn't sound too great. So the servers are set up with 2 NICs, nlb error one for management and one for the NLB NLB = unicast Server1 NIC1 = 192.168.0.1 /24 (for management) NIC2 = 10.1.1.1 / 24 (NLB dedicated IP) = 10.1.1.254 (NLB cluster IP) = 10.1.1.100 (default gateway) Server 2 NIC 1 = 192.168.0.2 (management address) NIC 2 = 10.1.1.2 (NLB dedicated IP) = 10.1.1.254 (NLB cluster IP) = 10.1.1.100 (default gateway) So I when setting it up I use the management IP nlb error could to connect to the server then choose the NLB dedicated IP, this is when I get the error. It should be easy, I have set it up a number of times but this time it is having none of it! Can anyone help? Thanks Paul June 1st, 2010 5:21pm Anyone got any ideas? Can you please check if the required "NLB" protocol is installed on the NICs but not activated (checked)? Also please try to configure the NLB on a other server then a node member = start the NLB configuration manager from an non-NLB node a.e. DC. Try this out and let me know if your issues are gone :-) Also you do NOT assign the NLB IP manually on the NIC configuration, correct? Please let me know about the results. Regards Ramazan June 20th, 2010 5:13pm Hi I managed to fix it, I'm using intel PCI NICs and the integrated broadcom NICs appeared to be causing an issue. I uninstalled the broadcom control suite, disabled the broadcom NICs in device manager and updated the Intel NIC drivers and it seems to be resolved. Pa

I installed windows server 2008 R2. I've got everything up and running but I'm having an issue with the NLB. I've never used NLB before, and thus far I can't seem to get both onboard NICs to work properly. I currently can configure one cluster, by telling the NLB manager to look at localhost, then choosing one of the NICs. I set the cluster ip to 192.168.1.100 and the NIC ip to 192.168.1.101. At this point, I can access my server via that new cluster ip. I can ping it fine as well. Now I try to add another host, I type in the ip address of the second NIC. 192.168.1.103. It connect and I can select that NIC to add. I then set the address of this NIC to 192.168.1.102. The NLB manager refreshes, shows my my cluster and the two NICs. The first NIC works fine, but the second NIC always is misconfigured. I just can't figure out how to get both NICs to become configured and balanced. I can see the server and move files with one configure NIC and one misconfigured NIC. Also the server cannot access the internet. Is NLB designed to do this? Everything I read setups up the NLB for 1 NIC public access and 1 NIC private access. I want both NICs to be able to share over my private network and be able to download. Can anyone help? Instead of 1 NIC being at 100%, 2 are at 50%. It sounds like your 2nd NIC is being configured wrong though. I haven't messed with NLB in 2k8 yet though. What is the purpose of NLB the 2 NICs? If its a server I'm guessing you have 2 Gigabit NICs. What kind of data are you working with that you need to NLB 2 gigabit NICs?
