I have a SanDisk - Cruzer 16GB USB 2.0 Flash Drive - Black as my usb, I used the link http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop to download Ubuntu 15.04 64-Bit and I used http://www.linuxliveusb.com/en/download to make my usb live. After I finished making the live usb I booted it up snd it showed the message: Boot Loader; /casper/vmlinuz: read error @ 0 can anyone help me I have been trying to find a way to fix it for about a month so please /install/vmlinuz file not found help me. boot live-usb bootloader share|improve this question edited Jun 4 '15 at 6:11 Parto 6,542153980 asked Jun 3 '15 at 19:30 Anonymous 2116 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote Open your USB drive and see you have indeed a file names vmlinuz inside a directory named casper (see the image below). If not something must have gone wrong during the creation of live USB. There is another user who faced the same problem using the same tool you used to create live USB. See /casper/vmlinuz: not found As suggested in an answer in the above post, you can also try adding the .efi extension to vmlinuz (or remove if efi is already there) and then try to boot. If this also did not work, perhaps you should try other tools such as Unetbootin or Universal USB installer If your downloaded ISO is not corrupted and your creation of bootable USB has worked out well, you should end up with a USB having following folders (example shown here is 15.04): share|improve this answer edited Jun 4 '15 at 13:15 answered Jun 4 '15 at 6:21 Ron 8,37631937 When I load my usb from the BIOS it shows me this !Valid XHTML and when I try to open the usb file !Valid XHTML it is somehow empty and here is a picture to show you

Try making one again. –muru Sep 4 '14 at 19:19 Please identify the version of Ubuntu you are trying to install. you should check the md5sum to insure your copy is correct before making a coaster by burning a bad copy to disk again. See askubuntu.com/questions/503776/… for md5sums and how to find them for recent versions of Ubuntu –Elder Geek Sep 4 '14 at 19:34 I too am getting this error, on any .iso grub2 tries to boot. UEFI,GPT,64bit AMD. Ubuntu 14.10 –Marcos Oct 11 '14 at 11:40 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote The file casper/vmlinuz.efi is the Linux kernel on the installation medium. So if you're getting this error, it's a problem with your USB flash drive. To fix it, I formatted my USB flash drive and copied my Live CD back onto it. That fixed it for me and, if that helps you, please mark this answer as correct. Thank you! share|improve this answer answered Feb 1 at 15:20 guttermonk 1219 add a comment| Your Answer draft saved draft discarded Sign up or log in Sign up using Google Sign up using Facebook Sign up using Email and Password Post as a guest Name

I tried several rebuild changing kernel versions also putting a symlink in casper before build (doesn't work with major error) I found some interesting info concerning vmlinuz.efi on vmlinuz not found x64 => https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Grub2/ISOBoot explaining that : "Updated releases of Ubuntu 12.04 and later may designate the 64-bit kernel as vmlinuz.efi. This file is still located in the /casper folder. When creating the menuentry, use vmlinuz.efi rather than vmliinuz in the linux line for the 64-bit version." Hope you could patch this easily. Ps: screen of boot error on qemu. And building ISO => boot ok no more error message. I have others problems but it comes from my previous tests, i will redo the complete update/build to check, i'm trying to build an updated MATE 1.6 environment. Una vez creada la unidad flash con tu distribución Ubuntu, abrimos la unidad USB. 2º. Vamos a la carpeta "casper" 3º. Renombramos el archivo vmlinuz.efi por vmlinuz tal cual sin punto. 4º.
