Php Configure Error Libjpeg A So Not Found
I've installed libpng and libjpeg with DarwinPorts (I'm running on OS X Leopard), but that doesn't seem to do the trick. I've read in a number of places that you need the development files (i.e. libpng-devel, etc.) as well to make this work. I'm a little lost. Can someone help me understand what I'm supposed to do? I'm happy to provide any more information that's necessary. My configuration for PHP looks like: ./configure '--with-png-dir=/usr/local' '--with-jpeg-dir=/usr/local' '--with-gd' and I'm debian configure: error: libjpeg.(a|so) not found. trying to install PHP 5.2.9. I've gotten the make to work without the '--with-gd' option. I've also been copying what I've found on various sites, so I might be doing something really wrong. php gd libpng share|improve this question edited Jan 24 '12 at 1:59 josephthomas 2,705818 asked Apr 20 '09 at 3:44 Bialecki 8,008226491 This got me when I was building Perl modules. Did libpng create something called libpng.conf or something similar? –ojblass Apr 20 '09 at 3:55 yes, there's a libpng-config. –Bialecki Apr 20 '09 at 12:52 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote This error indicates that the libpng.so or libpng.a file could not be found. These files are created when libpng is compiled. I don't know much about the Mac OS X way of installing things, but if you want to do it the Mac OS X way, you'll probably need to find and install that libpng-devel package. Otherwise, you'll need to grab the source of libpng and compile it yourself. It depends on zlib, which you probably already have shared libraries for, but if not, you'll have to get that too. Here's a guide to compiling libpng on Mac OS X. It has a darwin-specific Makefile (not sure why that's needed, but worth a try). share|improve this answer answered Apr 20 '09 at 5:31 thomasrutter 67.1k15105138 I

believe got me past that error is the php compile http://minimul.com/compiling-php-5-2-on-osx-lion.html switch --enable-static or even possibly the --disable-shared switch. I also had quite a run in with the iconv extension (see below). This was a nightmare and I almost quit. Prerequisites OSX Lion XCode 4.2 MacPorts 1. Compile dir This not required but I have a ~/Compile dir which I will be not found working from mkdir ~/Compile 2. Compile libjpeg. I used v1.7 and you can get it here. cd ~/Compile wget or curl the libjpeg.tar.gz and uncompress cd libjpeg-1.7 ./configure make && make install 3. Save the current libphp5.so sudo cp /usr/libexec/apache2/libphp5.so /usr/libexec/apache2/libphp5.so.original.53 4. Compile PHP I downloaded the latest at this time so) not found. of writing, which is 5.2.17. Some notes about the configure command. I had XCode installed which has both libpng and libfreetype so I just used those, which are in /usr/X11/lib. However, I only used the Xcode ones after I could get the configure to pass. I kept getting "libpng(a|so) not found" and then libfreetype(a|so) not found. I believe this was because the .dylib was not getting generated on the libpng and libfreetype hand compile. ./configure --with-mysql=/usr/local/mysql --with-zlib --enable-soap --with-apxs2 --disable-iconv --enable-ftp --enable-mbstring --prefix=/usr/local/php52 --with-gd --with-pdo-mysql=/usr/local/mysql --with-mysqli=/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql_config --with-openssl --with-jpeg-dir=/usr/local --with-png-dir=/usr/X11 --with-freetype-dir=/usr/X11 --with-curl --enable-xmlreader --enable-xmlwriter --enable-zip --with-kerberos --enable-static --disable-shared make sudo make install 5. Note on iconv You will notice the --disable-iconv. I could not for the life of me get iconv compiled. I tried everything that I could search for including: hacking the Makefile; and hacking the ext/iconv/iconv.c file. Therefore if you are searching for the error: Undefined symbols for architecture x8
