BSOD - STOP c0000135 - winsrv not found - XP unbootable Started by DeLuk , Nov 18 2011 12:12 PM Please log in to reply 14 replies to this topic #1 DeLuk DeLuk Members 228 posts OFFLINE Gender:Not Telling Location:Portugal Local time:02:50 PM Posted 18 November 2011 http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/428394/bsod-stop-c0000135-winsrv-not-found-xp-unbootable/ - 12:12 PM Greetings to the forum. I'm again found in need of some expert assistance please...Problem:Get the following BSOD on boot (just after the Windows splash screen / before the welcome screen comes up)STOP: c0000135 {Unable To Locate Component}This application has failed to start because winsrv was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem. Here's how the story went:Had just made the routine malware scans (all reports came up clean, so I'm rulling out malware as eventual cause) and was in the process of updating a couple of programs, namely:Upgraded Firefox to version 8, plus uninstalled Java, Adobe AIR and Shockwave and Flash players, to next install the due updates. Rebooted. All ok. (Perhaps it's worth mentioning that earlier this same day a Windows update had also been installed. From later checking the updates logs and dates, I figure it has been KB2641690.)As in the meantime not having the chance to install those pending Java and Adobe updates, eventually so I turned the computer off. (Somehow I think I recall it shutting down somewhat faster than it usually does, but maybe at this point I'm just already hearing and seeing things!) As later turning it on again, and moving out to another room whilst it was booting up (it's no fast machine), I noticed it "re-beeped" as if it were re-booting, so I came to check what's up

Apx. 2 weeks ago, no idea why, I get the blue screen with the error message "STOP:C0000135 {unable to locate component}. This application http://forums.majorgeeks.com/index.php?threads/blue-screen-error-winsrv-was-not-found.190576/ has failed to start because winsrv was not found. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem." This is a laptop, Dell Inspiron 600m, running Windows XP Home Edition. Apparently, between 2004-2005, there was no disc sent with not found this purchase, since the "original factory image" is on the hard drive, in case there's a need to reformat the hard drive -- which I don't want to do if I can avoid it. (No, I'm a ding-bat and didn't back up everything, which is why I'm thoroughly irritated with myself). That said, I called Dell and they tell me, for a fee of either $129. for a one-time fix or $239. for a 1-year error c0000135 winsrv subscription covering my laptop and my desktop, they will "send me a CD??" and chat on the phone for up to 3 days to fix my laptop. I have perused the Internet endlessly to see if I can do this on my own, and I can't seem to figure out what it is I need to get this problem fixed!! I've tried the whole F8 thing and choosing the different options, and nothing works. (I believe I have a disk that came with my Dell Dimension 4800, if that might help.??) The thing is, if I can't log into Windows, how does one fix this problem? As for why this might have happened, who knows. The family uses the laptop. I do know that one of the last things being used was i-Tunes, but that's about all I can offer for input. Honestly, if I have to fork over the money to Dell, I will. I just want someone more educated than myself on the subject, and someone not trying to get my money, to say, "Hey Lady, pay the money, because you ain't doing it on your own!" PS: I have your "How-To-Geek" on my home page...you guys/gals are amazing!! Thanks so much for your time. Reports: · Posted 7 years ago Top Gandalf Posts: 194 This post has be
