I have configured a device for eth0, and that eth0 not found in ifconfig is working properly. Here is my interfaces file: And the output from ifconfig -a: I have tried sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart and sudo service networking restart of which both work, but running ifconfig eth1 returns eth1: error fetching interface information: Device not found. I have just installed Ubuntu 7.04 in my ASUS laptop, Oh, my! 7.04?? Your error usually means that no such interface exists because a driver hasn't found the hardware and created a wlan0. You are much more likely to find appropriate drivers in a newer version of Ubuntu. A lot of drivers have been added to the kernel in the last five years! I recommend 12.04.
