Error Loading Vmlinuz-linux Not Found Gummiboot

(the wiki didn't mention the kernel requirement when I started installing error loading vmlinuz not found it... now it does and i updated the beginner's guide wiki post.)Problem Gummiboot#Installing says that "If you are still running kernel 3.7 or arch beginners guide have not booted in EFI mode, creating the boot entry will fail. You should however still be able to boot gummiboot as it copies the binary to the default EFI binary location on your ESP (/boot/EFI/BOOT/BOOTX64.EFI on x64 systemd boot systems). "the gummiboot part fails. gummiboot gives this error at install saying file system is not FAT EFI, so first I got gummiboot and gummiboot-efi both using pacman. then, I provided the --path to install and now it coughs up because the latest iso isn't 3.8 yet.Failed to access EFI variables. Is the "efivarfs" filesystem mounted?I can see efivars but this is asking for efivarfs.so instead I did,# cp /usr/lib/gummiboot/gummibootx64.efi /boot/efi/EFI/gummiboot/gummiboot.efi # efibootmgr -c -d /dev/sda -p 1 -w -L "Gummiboot" -l '\EFI\gummiboot\gummiboot.efi'how do I set this up? I'm afraid if I overwrite /boot/efi/EFI/BOOT/BOOTX64.EFI windows might not boot.after the installation (of course without gummiboot stuff) now when I reboot, I don't see any gummiboot menu at all because i didn't copy it to EFI/BOOT. it goes straight to windows 8 boot. during boot if I press F12 and see the menu option on thinkpad, I see gummiboot as the first entry(must be because of efibootmgr) followed by windows boot manager. When I select the gummiboot and enter, it just circles back to the same menu. I have setup the loader.conf and arch.conf as described in the wiki.how do I set gummiboot to work? i dont mind pressing F12 and then going to gumiboot-> arch until 3.8 is out.If this isn't possible, can I install rEFInd without messing gummiboot? looking at the dir structure of FAT EFI I think it should be possible but not 100% sure until i try it out. Also, to get rid of gummiboot, i should delete the directories, uninstall using pacman and get rid of the efibootmgr change I made, right? to figure this out. I checked the fast boot https://forum.teksyndicate.com/t/help-with-gummiboot-on-arch/77768 and secure boot settings, and they are disabled. I did an ls on /boot and all I see is EFI and loader. I also http://archlinux.2023198.n4.nabble.com/UEFI-madness-td4684614.html see no reference to my boot partition in fstab either. Timoral 2015-04-03 20:46:10 UTC #2 Try booting from a live CD and arch-chroot into not found your arch partition and try genfstab. Did you follow the beginners guide properly? Jedediah_Williams 2015-04-03 21:57:54 UTC #3 I tried twice with gummiboot and was double checking all the commands. I decided to try a third time and am going to try to get a boot manager of some vmlinuz not found sort working. I am digging through the wiki right now. Jedediah_Williams 2015-04-03 22:07:26 UTC #4 Would it be better to just use efistub with efibootmgr?Edit: I just got my efi partition added to fstab. Jedediah_Williams 2015-04-04 01:20:30 UTC #5 I got passed the vmlinuz-linux: not found error, but now I get this error: Failed to open file: initramfs-linux.imgTrying to load files to higher addressFailed to open file: initramfs-linux.img thirdmortal 2015-04-04 06:55:44 UTC #6 Jedediah_Williams: Edit: I just got my efi partition added to fstab. So just chroot back into your install and mount / and /boot, and reinstall your kernel. Then reinstall Gummiboot and make sure your $esp/loader/loader.conf is set correctly. Jedediah_Williams 2015-04-04 16:16:56 UTC #7 Thanks! That did it. thirdmortal 2015-04-04 21:27:56 UTC #8 No probs. Report Content as Inappropriate ♦ ♦ UEFI madness -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi all, So far, my attempt to install Arch Linux on a UEFI system is a total facepalm moment. The problem is in booting post-install. So, first, does anyone have actual--and successful--experience installing Arch on a UEFI system? Yes, I went to the Arch Wiki, which initially pointed me at GummiBoot. There are actually two sets of instructions, one given where I looked first, for the UEFI entry, and another under the entry for GummiBoot. Neither succeeds, but I wound up following the latter set of instructions (and cleaning up extra entries with efibootmgr, which fortunately makes this relatively easy). GummiBoot says it can't find /vmlinuz-linux. I tried modifying the configuration to say /boot/vmlinuz-linux, but no joy. Apparently, I'm really supposed to copy this file and the initrd image to the EFI partition, but nobody says where in the EFI partition, so I have no idea. I also tried following the instructions for grub-efi. I'm just mystified. I managed to install the right package, but from there I just wasn't understanding a thing. I've been using linux since 1999 so this shouldn't be so completely mystifying. I tried installing rEFInd (from sourceforge). As near as I can tell, it does indeed detect all the possible boot options on the system. But when I try booting the Arch installation, it says it can't find the root partition. It also detects the GummiBoot option, but that leads the same place as before. Finally, it detects the Windows option, which I hope still works (unfortunately I do need this). I guess getting something that just works--like it did with BIOS systems--is not in the cards. What do I do now?
