See this answer of mine. –karlkoeller Aug 2 '13 at 18:49 it's an 404 error, means that it doesn't have the things you want . Maybe , you can change to another website. –Nax Aug 3 '13 at 6:27 I have exactly the same problem. Tried multiple different mirrors but i keep getting the 404 Error when trying to install listings package. Installing other packages from the same mirrors works flawless so the problem seems to be specific to the listing package. EDIT: I finally managed to download the package. It seems to be really a problem with some mirrors but it's not limited to a single one but seems to be quite widespread. I had to go through around 5 mirrors to finally find a working one. –user34641 Aug 5 '13 at 9:34 If a Windows machine run your editor as an administrator. TeXnicCenter suffers continuously from this for some reason. –percusse Aug 5 '13 at 9:4

I was trying to right left-top http://tex.stackexchange.com/questions/187725/how-to-install-mathtools-package corner superscript, someone recommended mathtools package on this forum: Left and right subscript. So I downloaded mathtools.zip from CTAN, unzip it, there's an "mathtools.dtx". In the package there are documents but none talked about how to install, I fancy the installation is just too primary to real Latex users. OK, then, there's still another thread here explained the steps: How can I manually install a package on MiKTeX (Windows) . So here I follow I ran "tex XXX.dtx" (there's no *.ins files) on all the .dtx files under the extracted folder, that includes: breqn.dtx, flexisym.dtx, mathstyle.dtx, empheq.dtx, mathtools. Then I created a folder "C:\athos\localtexmf\mathtools" and put all the new files in. Then I go to "Windows -> Start -> Programs -> MikTex 2.9 -> Maintenance (Admin) -> Settings (Admin) "; in "Roots" tab I added path "C:\athos\localtexmf"; in "General" tab I clicked "Refresh FNDB" and then clicked "OK" to close it. I restarted my WinEdt, added "\usepackage{mathtools}" under "\documentclass..."; and added "test $\prescript{14}{2}{\mathbf{C}}$ " in the main body. After that when I try to "MikTex", the error still comes up: "Th

It cannot be installed automatically from package depository because of server error (error response from server:404). Package files can be downloaded from http://www.ctan.org/pkg/xetex-def. Though I haven't found any package documentation with installation instructions. After downloaded from CTAN, there are just .def files. Where to put them? xetex miktex ctan share|improve this error response from question asked Jul 12 at 20:44 user46581 16018 There was a recent reorganisation for the graphic drivers, and xetex-def is obsolete. Install the new graphics-def. –Bernard Jul 12 at 20:52 I downloaded multiple .def files (xetex.def, pdftex.def, luatex.def...) in graphics-def folder. What do you mean by graphics-def package? The question about installation .def files stays unanswered. –user46581 Jul 12 at 21:55 Put the whole folder in MiKTeX 2.9\tex\latex and refresh the FNDB (both as Admin and as User). Christian Schenk removed the older versions, buts seems to have forgotten to add this package. I guess it will be in the next update. –Bernard Jul 12 at 22:14 I'm sorry to have given you a wrong information: I've just checked: it's in the last update (6/7/2016). So use MiKTeX PackageManager. –Bernard Jul 12 at 22:19 1 Synchronize your offline package database (package manager + package manager admin, menu repositories). Then miktex will know about the new location.
