I thought that issue only affected more recent kernels but I can reproduce this failure with the LTS kernel. I have not had the issue at all with 3.7.* kernels - this is the first time it has happened. Both kernels were updated so is it the kernel or the config or...? Way out of my depth here. With rEFInd, with both the standard and fallback options for the current kernel, it hangs mid line. That is, it prints almost all of the usual loading line up to "initram" and then stops mid-word.With rEFInd and the LTS kernel, with both standard and fallback options, it hangs in the same place but then a message in yellow is overlaid which says "Error: unsupported while loading vmlinuz-linux-ltx".GRUB boots fine. But there is this error: Code: Error loading \vmlinuz-3.19-lfs-7.7-systemd: Unsupported Failed to execute Linux From Scratch (\vmlinuz-3.19-lfs-7.7-systemd): Unsupported I think the problem is my computer's EFI Firmware can't execute the vmlinuz as a EFISTUB. (BTW I use systemd-boot as a boot manager. It's just a menu for EFISTUB vmlinuz'es and other EFI executables.) How can I make it bootable? PMHello all, I'am trying to create a dual boot (win 8 + fedora 17) system on my sammy np900x3c. My first attempt to install linux on my machine has been performed via Ubuntu 12.10. Everything went fine (grub2 worked properly and I was able to choose the two OS) but I am allergic to Ubuntu...so I decided to replace it with Fedora. Unfortunately, I made some mistakes during the installation (this is my first attempt with UEFI): after the installation I am with grub (0.97) of Fedora in which I am able to load Fedora, exclusively, and a second partition (that I forgot to delete during the Fedora installation) with the previous bootloader (grub2 of Ubuntu). So I am only able to load Fedora 17 but I can't access to Win 8. Now I'd like to recover a proper dual boot with grub (I read the problems with uefi etc.). Can someone help me? To give you more infos about my configuration I can add that Secureboot is Disabled and the OS Mode Selection is on UEFI OS; when the label Fedora is the first in the Boot priority order I get grub (0.97) and I can only boot Fedora 17; when the label Ubuntu is the first in the Boot priority order I get grub rescue; the same thing occurs when I choose Windows Boot Manager as the first label in the Boot priority order. I tried to recover the boot loader via boot-repair but I had no success. You can read my boot info script here: http://paste.ubuntu.com/1456729/ Thanks in advance for the replies. srs569422nd December 2012, 05:31 PMFirst, some potential complications: You've got three EFI System Partitions (ESPs). This isn't an error, but it can be confusing. You might want to consolidate them, but I recommend putting that off for a bit, since it will complicate getting your system up and running. It looks like ESP #1 (/dev/sda2) holds the Windows and Ubuntu boot loaders, ESP #2 (/dev/sda7) isn't being used at all, and ESP #3 (/dev/sda8)
