Libssl.so.6: Cannot Open Shared Object File: No Such File Or Directory
favorite 5 Im trying to use twoBitToFa, which is a small program released by the University of California Santa Cruz, that uncompresses large genome files and I get this error: error while loading shared libraries: libssl.so.10: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory I tried searching for what package provides it. I switched from Fedora which had 'yum provides' but when looking for the Ubuntu equivalent, I came across 'apt-file search' but when I tried that /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libcrypto.so.10: version `libcrypto.so.10' not found I got a command not found error. How can I get this libssl file, and more generally, how can I search for what package provides a file so I can do this by myself in the future? shared-library share|improve this question edited Sep 7 '14 at 23:01 Braiam 39k1693154 asked Aug 30 '13 at 14:49 von Mises 168117 add a comment| 4 Answers 4 active oldest votes up vote 20 down vote accepted Lets make sure that you have your SSL installed and updated: sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install libssl1.0.0 libssl-dev Now lets fix the naming of the file by creating a link: cd /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu sudo ln -s libssl.so.1.0.0 libssl.so.10 sudo ln -s libcrypto.so.1.0.0 libcrypto.so.10 And finally, lets inform the developer about this flaw so he can fix it :) share|improve this answer edited Dec 9 '13 at 22:35 mmorris 6722512 answered Aug 30 '13 at 15:20 Hugo Vieira 732410 2 In my case (bedToBigBed from UCSC) I also had to run a similar command for "libcrypto" in addition to the above answer: sudo ln -s /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libcrypto.so.1.0.0 /usr/lib/libcrypto.so.10 –user2821352 Oct 25 '13 at 16:55 add a comment| up vote 4 down vote I am one of the developers of these tools. Our binaries don't support Ubuntu officially (yet). The official way to fix this problem is to recompile from source, which just has gotten extremely simple (see https://github.com/NullModel/kentUtils). We are currently trying t

(Server message 305419896) libssl.so.4: cannot open shared object file: libssl.so.6 not found No such file or directory (UNIX Dynamic Linking message -1) Users may also observe a libssl.so.1.0.0 fedora similar error when using some of the MicroStrategy utilities such as the MicroStrategy Connectivity Wizard etc. Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /opt/MicroStrategy812/lib/libmadbjni.so.8.1.525.151: libcrypto.so.4: cannot http://askubuntu.com/questions/339364/libssl-so-10-cannot-open-shared-object-file-no-such-file-or-directory open shared object file: No such file or directory CAUSE: The likely cause for this issue is that the libssl.so.4 library is missing from the Redhat Enterprise Linux 5 or SUSE Linux Enterprise Server machine. The MicroStrategy libraries use an SSL enabled version of the 'libcurl' libraries and so these https://community.microstrategy.com/t5/tkb/articleprintpage/tkb-id/architect/article-id/2286 dependent libraries are required for the Intelligence Server 8.x to start. ACTION: To resolve this issue for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5, install the missing libraries, libssl.so.4 and libcrypto.so.4 on the machine. The library should be part of the following package: openssl097a-0.9.7a-9.x86_64.rpm For SUSE Linux machines, the readme specifies the appropriate steps to take: 1. Install the required RPM: compat-openssl097g-xxxx.x86_64.rpm, where xxxx is the version number. (openssl-0.9.7d-15.10.x86_64.rpm for SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 9)2. Use the following commands to manually create the two required links: * ln -s /usr/lib64/libssl.so.0.9.7 /usr/lib64/libssl.so.4* ln -s /usr/lib64/libcrypto.so.0.9.7 /usr/lib64/libcrypto.so.4 Did this article solve your problem? I tried installing ssl package of python, but that didn't fix it. python django linux ubuntu share|improve this question asked Oct 29 '11 at 5:40 Sam Stoelinga 2,16132249 You might need to install the general SSL package for your OS. Check your software repo/package manager for what's available. –Manny D Oct 29 '11 at 6:09 I know the problem now, its because my virtualenv was still using the ubuntu 11.04 general ssl package. I am currently trying to create a new virtualenv and see if that works. Thanks for your suggestion though. The general ssl package is already installed. –Sam Stoelinga Oct 29 '11 at 6:16 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 5 down vote accepted I had the same error installing OpenStack on Ubuntu 11.10. Running locate showed I only had version 1.0.0 and not 0.9.8 $ locate libssl.so /lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libssl.so.1.0.0 /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libssl.so.1.0.0 I fixed it using: $sudo apt-get install libssl0.9.8 share|improve this answer answered Oct 31 '11 at 20:38 Neffster 1265 yea good to provide it in here, maybe somebody who googles for the error like i usually do has the same proble as you do :) –Sam Stoelinga Nov 1 '11 at
