Jan 14 '13 at 15:08 jasonkim 4081619 1 Does xQuartz come with headers? You might need to install those separately. –Fred Foo Jan 14 '13 at 15:11 Did you install the 'command line tools' package for XCode? The headers in /usr/include/X11 may well be distributed with that. –Jonathan Leffler Jan 14 '13 at 15:24 add a comment| 3 Answers 3 active oldest votes up vote 10 down vote accepted you need to compile with: g++ -o ex ex.cpp -I/usr/X11R6/include -L/usr/X11R6/lib -lX11 the X11 headers are installed with xQuartz, but you need to reference them explicitly If you install xQuartz it installs into /opt/X11, and /usr/X11 and /usr/X11R6 are symlinks to this location share|improve this answer answered Jan 14 '13 at 16:21 Petesh 51.6k35174 add a comment| up vote 17 down vote You may need to add symbolic link to X11 folder by: sudo ln -s /opt/X11/include/X11 /usr/local/include/X11 In my case, I had to make include directory under usr/local. share|improve this answer answered Sep 25 '13 at 22:43 skndmx 18114 Awesome! - did not work. I have X11 installed, and supposedly I installed the SDK. Check for /Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.4u.sdk/usr/X11R6/include/X11I don't remember having to do anything special to get https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1137062?start=0&tstart=0 gcc to find these files. From what I've noted, the usual trigger seems to be that the X11SDK.pkg package wasn't installed.Typical PATH export is:export PATH="/bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin"If you're working with Fink, there's a call to the following needed:. /sw/bin/init.shSee http://finkproject.org/doc/users-guide/install.phpBut I'd first make sure the X11 SDK was installed. I'd guess that is missing. If you do not have that directory, you do not have the X-Windows development package installed. For X-Windows, you use -I/usr/X11R6/include for the compile and "-L/usr/X11R6/lib -lX11" for your load command. Hello. I'm trying to compile a program that I downloaded and it reports [amongst many other things]: Code: .... gcc -O2 -L/usr/X11R6/lib -lX11 -lXext -o viewer viewer.c viewer.c:28:22: error: X11/Xlib.h: No such file or directory viewer.c:29:33: error: X11/extensions/XShm.h: No such file or directory ...... So I fetched the headers and [after many more failed attempts at compiling] decided to store them in: Code: /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/extensions /usr/X11R6/lib/X11 /usr/X11R6/lib /usr/X11R6/include/X11 /usr/X11R6/X11 All at the same time ! But the compile error message remains the same Can anyone help, please. Adv Reply April
