Things to check: lspci - is you network adapter listed? Reboot and enter bios setup. Check if the built in network adapter is enabled. share|improve this answer answered Jun 26 '14 at 1:27 sмurf 3,4741122 Thank you for your valuable solutions. I've installed this on VirtualBox without GUI. http://www.centos.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8808 Hence, I can't copy & paste the output. Top TrevorH Forum Moderator Posts: 16841 Joined: 2009/09/24 10:40:56 Location: Brighton, UK Re: eth0: error fetching interface information: Device not found Quote Postby TrevorH » 2013/09/05 08:15:51 I am guessing that at some point you have changed the set up of your VM to alter the network card - perhaps a different model or something - and this has changed the MAC address of the card. Look in /etc/udev/rules.d for a file called something with persistent-net-rules in it. Edit that and look at the contents - it probably contains lines for both eth0 and eth1. You should remove the lines that refer to eth0 and can also change eth1 to eth0 afterwards if you'd prefer to have eth0 rather than eth1 on your system (though it doesn't really matter what it's called so long as it works). Save that and then look in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts for the various ifcfg-eth* files there. You'll want to remove the one for eth0. If you renamed eth1 to eth0 then you nee

The virtual machine i'm running in VMware is a custom distribution built device not found on Debian Linux version 3.1. I'm still pretty much a beginner with UNIX administration. After having messed around with the vmware (changed only the name of the folder, the vmx and and other .v* files accordingly in which the .vmx was situated, and the configuration in the vmx file accordingly), the network devices on the virtual machine do not work anymore. The virtual machine is used for securely sending messages. The virtual machine: As far as I know, this perl file called proxy-gen-ifalias eth0 is responsible for properly setting up the two virtual network devices eth0 and eth1. The Virtual machine comes with a GUI interface in which I have set up two ethernet network devices, one internal, the other external. Now, after having messed around with this, the UI gives me this error message: perl proxy-gen-ifalias eth0 /etc/modprobe.d/alias-eth0 /sbin/update-modules perl proxy-gen-ifalias eth1 /etc/modprobe.d/alias-eth1 /sbin/update-modules ifdown eth0 ifdown: interface eth0 not configured ifdown eth1 ifdown: interface eth1 not configured perl proxy-gen-netcfg /etc/network/interfaces ifup eth0 SICCSIFADDR: No such device eth0: ERROR while getting interface fl
