This happened to me, for example, after copying files from an old to a new computer. Although the error message includes recover garageband file a Search button, I wouldn’t waste my time trying it. Inevitably, the error returns to inform you that it was still unable to find the MIA files. If you instead select Skip, the lesson should eventually open. However, not surprisingly, you won’t be hearing much, if any, sound. Where exactly are these missing audio files? Oddly enough, they are most likely exactly where they are supposed to be: inside

the Lesson item itself. To confirm this, navigate to /Library/Application Support/GarageBand/Learn to Play. Open either Basic Lessons or Artist Lessons to find the .mwand lesson item that is not working for you. These items are packages, which means they are really folders in disguise. To peer inside, select Show Package Contents from the lesson’s contextual menu. Next, go to the lesson’s Media folder. Here you will find all the .caf audio files that GarageBand has mysteriously been unable to locate on its own. Unfortunately, there is no way you can shake GarageBand and shout: “Here they are. Use them.” You also won’t have success with typical troubleshooting recommendations, such as redownloading the lessons or reinstalling GarageBand itself. But don’t fret. Solving this matter is delightfully simple. The key is to pay a visit to a different Library, the one in your Home directory. Here, go to Application Support/GarageBand/Working Copies. In this folder, you should find one or more files with the same names as the problematic Learn to Play lessons. Delete these files (don’t worry, this won’t delete the actual lessons). Now, launch GarageBand, and try again to open a lesson. You should succeed without getting the audio errors. Related: Graphics and Design S

HELP!! Sign in to disable this ad When i go to open one of my GB projects, 'Audio File Not Found' comes up.. I've searched a few threads on here and the reply's in them didn't help. I'am running a 27'' iMac Quad-Core. The last thing a did was switch a few of the letters in the title to capitals doubt that did anything. I searched it through the spot light clicked on it and same thing No Files. The http://homerecording.com/bbs/general-discussions/digital-recording-and-computers/audio-file-not-found-garageband-help-301888/ project does open with the tracks right where there suppose to be but in the top left corner of each Guitar and Bass track it says No File Found. However the drum tracks still remain there just fine. **Also today a re-recorded the guitar tracks, Saved As, closed GB, reopened it and the same thing, No Audio Files Found. Anyway to obtain these tracks? Or do I have to start a whole new session? Anyway to Avoid this from happening again? ..All my other projects are fine. Thanks Rob. Long story short, I downloaded a bunch, used some in a composition, wait for it.... then organized the loops on my hard drive. Yes, after I'd used them. Of course GB couldn't find them. I did a search on MacJam, but didn't get hits for this problem. Maybe I'm the only dumb-ass that did this... javascript:emoticon('') Anyway, if GB gives you a "Audio File XXX Not Found" error, jot down the name of the file, then do a command-F finder search not found for the file. If it's not on your hard drive, you're done, sorry. Next, locate the GB .band file that has the error, and control-click on the file. This will give you a popup menu, and you should select "Show Package Contents". Inside the file there will be at least one file called "projectData" and one folder called "Media". Make a duplicate copy of the missing audio file and drop it into the Media folder. Do not change the name of the file not found file -- GB won't recognize it if you do. When you do an "Archive" of a GB song, all the audio files, both loops and imports, are stored inside the archive .band file. What would be REALLY cool is if someone would share how to re-link audio files from within GB. Re: Friday, August 18 2006 @ 07:26 PM CDT Once you create a track, using loops, real audio, AIFFs, WAVs, etc... Rename the Tracks, and the Regions. Also name your "self-made" presets, and save them to the internal GB list. This will ID every placed file, preset, and so on, in the Package Contents. Copy the package contents as an "Audio Support" folder. Once you reopen the GB file, all the regions have your assigned names... not the GB encoded-hard-to-find files names, that are only named those names within GB. Write down the loops you use, and copy them to your special folder, too. Always back-up, and check the Package Contents. If possible, on another machine... and compare the file names and file count. You can NEVER back-up enough, for safety sake! crissew Registered: 07/19/09Posts: 1078Location: , NC United States Re: Wednesday, September 01 2010 @ 02:08 PM CDT This problem of files just mysteriously disappearing in garageband has happened to me 5 times now. Backing files up does no good because the file just copies the exact same way. (Unless I keep another garageband file each save which would be ri
