You need to be root or equivalent in order to perform most the the Linux/Unix system administration functions. su - HCL Search Reviews Search ISOs Go to Page... I recently have re-installed the Maverick's OS, so I don't know what the problem could be. When I cd to /usr/sbin and list my executables, groupadd does not appear, neither does useradd. They are not in my /usr/bin directory either. How can I go about reinstalling these executables so that I can have these commands back? Please be specific, command not found I am not as technical as most people on stack overflow. What exactly is the question? Why do you need it? –michas Dec 30 '13 at 22:43 1 useradd and groupadd are linux commands, and are not normally available on OS X. To add a user to a group in OS X, use dseditgroup instead (see this SU question). –Gordon Davisson Dec 31 '13 at 2:10 add a comment| active oldest votes Know someone who can answer? You must check your secure log files /var/log/secure See what it tell you after type commands. ------------ In my case, /etc/login.defs has been removed from the system. That's why my "groupadd" commands doesn't work. So, I decided to copy new login.defs from another machine. And it now worked. HostYim, Mar 15, 2011 #7 (You must log in or sign up to reply here.)
