We have two Exchange Server 2007CAS servers in an NLB running on Windows 2008 Server SP2. The symptom is that locally on exchange 2013 owa 404 file or directory not found server01 we are unable to browse the OWA site. Weget the error - 404 - File or directory not found. On server 02 we do not get the error and can browse OWA. As a temporary measure I have stopped the 01 server in the NLB. Access to the OWA site via 02only

Creating your account only takes a few minutes. Join Now I installed a GoDaddy certificate, https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/286100-exchange-2007-owa-404-not-found-error-internally-and-externally-sbs-2008 making the mistake of following GoDaddy instructions for Exchange 2007. It includes using Exchange Management Shell's "Import-ExchangeCertificate -Path c:\locationOfCertFile" and "Enable-ExchangeCertificate -Thumbprint xxxxxxxx -Services "SMTP, IMAP, IIS"" commands. Now OWA is inaccessible. I cannot connect to the server to retrieve mail. On the server itself, "https://remote.server.com/owa"; results in a 404 Not Found--"The resource you are looking for has been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable."
After researching further, I found these instructions: http://sbs.seandaniel.com/2009/02/installing-godaddy-standard-ssl.html. I ran through the instructions from scratch. It involves only importing the intermediate certificate and using the SBS wizard to "Add a Trusted Certificate". However, the 404 Not Found error continues. I've also recently installed an Exchange 2007 rollup, but the certificate was expiring at the same time, so I don't know if something else caused this problem. Let me start from the beginning describing my problem and then telling you guys ( and girls ) what i have found out so far. I have installed Server 2008 with the latest updates and so on. Then i installed AD and DNS. Again file or directory updates. Then i installed IIS, but i did not install ASP in the beginning, forgot it. Then i installed exchange 2007 and after installing the last features it needed i was ready and finished with the installation. But then it started. As i though i just go to my https://localhost/owa i got a popup where i needed to fill in my credentials for logging in. But to bad, i just got an error. As i must add, the error is different logging in locally then logging in remotely ( connecting to the web access page owa ). Locally i get the popup telling me this when i try logging in: HTTP Error 404.17 - Not Found The requested content appears to be script and will not be served by the static file handler. Detailed Error Information Module StaticFileModule Notification ExecuteRequestHandler Handler StaticFile Error Code 0x80070032 Requested URL https://localhost:443/owa/auth/logon.aspx?url=https://localhost/owa/&reason=0 Physical Path E:\Exchange Server\ClientAccess\owa\auth\logon.aspx Logon Method Anonymous Logon User Anonymous Ok, so then i tried it remotely, after my own pc cause i was working remotely trying to solve this ( not so easy found ) problem. Error as following: Server Error 404 - File or directory not found. The resource you are looking for might have
or Directory notfound. Exchange 2007 OWA – Error 404 – File or Directory notfound. August 16, 2009 edmckinzie Leave a comment Go to comments Let me give you a brief background before we jump into the error. We are in the middle of migrating Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007. In order to make the migration as seamless as possible, we have setup an ISA 2006 Enterprise Array to service the new Exchange 2007 Exchange Web Services. We decided to use a redirect for https://owa.domain.com/exchange as on of the OWA Publishing Rules. It was setup as a deny rule, whereas all traffic to owa.domain.com would be redirected to https://owa.domain.com/exchange. This achieved several things. 1.) We are able to support multiple domains and URLs. The trick is to point all other DNS names, such as owa.domain1.com or webmail.domain3.com to the owa.domain.com IP. The redirector will take care of the rest. 2,) This allows us to support both Exchange 2003 or 2007 mailbox users. /OWA is the default directory for Exchange 2007, but it will support /Exchange for legacy servers. By using the /Exchange path, any user homed on either Exchange version will be able to login to Exchange. (I will have another post soon going into detail on how to setup ISA 2006 and Exchange 2007 Publishing Rules) Having said all of this, we had an Exchange 2007-Windows 2008 CCR Cluster up and running. It was working as expected. One of our admins accidently deleted all of the WebDav or OWA virtual directories from the Backend server. Since we were using the /Exchange path, OWA stopped working on users homed on that server. It also affects Free/Busy and Calendaring. Users would likely receive the following error: The gotcha was OWA would work if we passed the /OWA path….. This article goes into detail on the symptom: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/947802 Your mailbox is located on a server that is running Microsoft Exchange Server 2007.
