404 - File Or Directory Not Found How To Fix

If I go to localhost, the default page is displayed, so the web server is ok. I have added a folder with a page in it in the \inetpub\wwwroot directory. The full path to the page is then C:\inetpub\wwwroot\folder\file.html. I have restarted the services but if I navigate to localhost/folder/file.html I get a 404 file not found error. Obviously I have forgotten something simple, but what is it? :) iis http-status-code-404 share|improve this question asked Apr 14 '14 at 10:44 http://superuser.com/questions/741486/page-not-found-in-iis-but-its-there user1301428 1,75042247 Check error log, you will find what exactly it is searching –Sai Apr 14 '14 at 11:56 @Sai It is searching that exact file: GET /folder/file.html - 80 –user1301428 Apr 14 '14 at 12:08 I think this is from access log, there will be error log, whenever it fails...! –Sai Apr 14 '14 at 12:10 @Sai Uhm, weird.. You can also switch on Detailed errors at Error Pages in IIS to give more info. share|improve this answer answered Apr 14 '14 at 13:26 Lisa 32127 What did you reset the username and password to? –user1301428 Apr 14 '14 at 14:49 It was a domain account which was part of Admin and IIS users. All I did was put the details in again. –Lisa Apr 16 '14 at 6:44 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote I had this same problem. Observe your path: C:\inetpub\wwwroot\folder\file.html. Ensure that: The file name extension you are requesting (in this case, .html) is not being blocked by IIS. The directories

Running Classic ASP https://www.iis.net/learn/application-frameworks/running-classic-asp-applications-on-iis-7-and-iis-8/classic-asp-parent-paths-are-disabled-by-default Applications on IIS 7 and IIS 8Classic ASP parent paths are disabled by default Classic ASP parent paths are disabled by default By Robert McMurrayFebruary 19, 2009Classic ASP Parent Paths let developers use relative addresses that contain ".." in the paths to files or folders. For example, the following code excerpt illustrates an ASP page that maps a parent path: <% Response.Write Server.MapPath("../example.asp")%> In addition, not found the following code except illustrates an ASP page that references an included file in a folder that uses a parent path: In several earlier versions of IIS, parent paths were enabled by default. In IIS 6.0 the default behavior changed to disable parent paths, and this was done for security and design reasons: by preventing the execution of parent paths, you are preventing the file or directory inclusion of content across security or application boundaries. By default, class ASP script error messages are not sent to the Web browser, and any attempts to use parent paths will return the following error message to a Web browser: An error occurred on the server when processing the URL. Please contact the system administrator. If you are the system administrator, please click here to find out more about this error. (Note: The ASP script error message listed above may be customized. For more information, see the Classic ASP script errors are no longer shown in a Web browser by default topic.) If you enable sending ASP script error messages and your classic ASP scripts attempt to map a path in a parent folder, you receive the following error message in your Web browser: Server.MapPath() error 'ASP 0175 : 80004005' Disallowed Path Characters /test/example.asp, line 100 The '..' characters are not allowed in the Path parameter for the MapPath method. When your classic ASP scripts attempt to include a page that uses parent paths in IIS, you receive the following error message in your Web browser: Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0131' Disallowed Parent Path /test
