error, java: command not found ? –Jasonw Jun 28 '12 at 4:10 @Jasonw I did select 2 by typing 2 and after that I am still getting java: command not found –user75ponic Jun 28 '12 at 4:13 1 if you do ls -l /etc/alternatives/java, it should symlink to /usr/java/jre1.6.0_24/bin/java . Then you need to check which java is called, which java and the path given (e.g. /usr/bin/java) , it should symlink to /etc/alternatives/java –Jasonw Jun 28 '12 at 4:38 @Jasonw I have resolved the issue by the below mentioned solution by devsundar. Thanks anyway. –user75ponic Jun 28 '12 at 5:34 1 yes, that configuration is per user basis. The one with alternative is applicable to system wide. But if you are happy with the solution, that's great! :) –Jasonw Jun 28 '12 at 5:49 add a comment| 4 Answers 4 active oldest votes up vote 21 down vote accepted You can add one of the Java path to PATH variable using the following command. export PATH=$PATH:/usr/java/jre1.6.0_24/bin/ You can add this line to .bashrc file in your home directory. We need to extract files from a .war into some directory. We have an .xml file which includes commands to extract the files from the .war file and start the server. The build is being created properly but the .war extraction is not happening and the destination folder is being left empty. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/23538864/bash-jar-command-not-found The Jenkins Console shows the following output: [sshexec] bash: jar: command not found As read from other answers, I have set the PATH properly in .bashrc or in .profile but I'm still facing the same issue. java bash jenkins share|improve this question edited Dec 17 '15 at 10:06 tripleee 60.4k760116 asked May 8 '14 at 10:14 Satish 3091616 Are you sure you have a JDK installed and not a JRE? –fge May 8 '14 at 10:14 @fge : JDK is Installed (jdk1.6.0_33) and JRE is present inside JDK folder, private jre –Satish May 8 '14 at 10:41 If you don't have the jar command on your system, there is no "properly" way to fix the PATH. If it does exist on your system, you have not set the PATH "properly". I didn't want to remove this sentence when editing your question, but you should probably clarify which you mean, or perhaps just take it out. –tripleee Dec 17 '15 at 10:07 add a comment| 4 Answers 4 active oldest votes up vote 5 down vote Install Java devel as follows: yum install java-devel share|improve this answer answered Jul 2
