Windows Server 2008 R2 General - Read Only Question 0 Sign in to vote I'm setting product key not found produkey up som Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7 machines, all RTM.After a bit of struggle (not too bad after I figured the commands out) I've successfully set

up a KMS service on a server running Server 2008 R2. The KMS key is also successfully activated with MS using the slmgr -ato command. Here comes the strange part. When I run slmgr -ato on different clients to make them activate against the KMS service, this happens:- on the first PC with Windows kms client setup keys 7, I get the "insuffient count" error. This is normal.- on the second PC running Win7, the same thing happens. Still normal as my client count hasn't reached 25.- on the third Win7 PC, I get this error: "Windows Script Host - Error: product not found".- on a server running Server 2008 (R1), same error: "Windows Script Host - Error: product not found".The KMS service event log on the KMS host shows that the first two PC's are trying to activate as expected, but there are no traces of the third PC and the 2008 server. I've tried to search for the "product not found" error, but haven't found anything useful. The KMS key is a Class B key, which should be suffient. All Server installation are "Standard", and all Client installations are "Professional".Oh, and the KMS Service is running on a server that is also a Domain Controller. KMS key on install machine expires, where can/should I update? 6 replies, 6796 views Posted on March 5, 2013 Edited by Unidesk employee Ron Oglesby on May 14, 2013 rhosysadmin Registered user Joined: January http://www.unidesk.com/forum/troubleshooting/desktops-microsoft-windows-and-layers/kms-key-install-machine-expires-where-ca 8, 2013 My install machine is based on a gold image that used a KMS key. That gold image has been off line long enough that when I went to create a new https://techjourney.net/slmgr-commands-and-options-for-windows-product-key-kms-token-ad-activation/ version of an application layer today, I was informed that my Windows install was not authentic. I can run slmgr.vbs and re-activate the KMS key, but my question is more for the long term. not found Can I make a change to my gold image, say activate it with a MAK key, or is it too late once it's already been imported into Unidesk? Do I just continue to force the KMS key activation whenever I'm creating new layer versions? I found out the hard way that if I fail to re-activate the KMS key during any of my app layer version creations, product key not it breaks the KMS activation for any desktop I apply it to. I don't think I want to have to remember this extra step every time. Where can I fix this? Do I remove and re-add my gold image? Will that invalidate all my OS and app layer builds to date? What are my options? Posted on March 6, 2013 Gunther Anderson Unidesk employee Joined: May 17, 2010 Actually, your Install Machine isn't part of this question. When you created your Install Machine, you didn't specify an OS layer (or gold image) for it, only an OS family - XP, Win7x86, or Win7x64. Install Machines are empty shells that get filled with whatever layers you need to work on. If you have two Win7x64 OS layers, you can use the same Win7x64Install Machine for each of them as needed. So the activation you've done is specific to your layers. You can activate your OS layer, you can activate App layers, and you can activate your desktops (personalization layers) and they remember that activation independently. Normally, you only need to activate your OS layer (and desktops). Your OS layer gets its activation from the Gold you originally import

In addition, corporate customers with volume licensing agreement now also have to activate each of the computers in their network under Volume Activation with either Multiple Activation Keys (MAK) or on-premise volume license key-management service (KMS) host or server for networked environments with 25 or more machines. Besides, OEM computer products preinstalled in factory is protected with System Locked Preinstallation (SLP 2.0) where BIOS is included with signed Windows Marker and SLIC table for instant activation. All these activation processes make use of Software Licensing Manager (SLMgr) module, also known as Windows Software Licensing Management Tool in Windows, a VBScript called slmgr.vbs that keeps track of licensing details. SLMgr script allows users to query the current installation and see details about Windows installation and its activation and licensing status. SLMgr.vbs can also be used to input or change 25-character product key that determines which Windows OS edition allowed to install and activate, and which also tells the Setup program whether you've purchased a full or upgrade license. To activate online or against KMS server, users or Windows GUI need to make use of the SLMgr module too. Most of the licensing operation in Windows can be done via graphical user interface. If you're power user, you can access to all options, flags and settings of the SLMgr.vbs command script. To run the script, logon with an user account with administrator rights, and open an elevated Administrator Command Prompt window.
